Here we go. Game thread.
Thanks again, Moose. Let's see if the mojo works for another week.

Boise State fans are really frustrated right now. They've lost two games in which they had double-digit second-half leads (UCF, Oklahoma State), lost at home to Nevada for the first time since the 1990s, and find themselves with a losing record. The biggest issues for their team right now seem to revolve around their offensive and defensive lines. They just haven't been very good this year.
Boise State has traditionally had a strong running game. Until injuries and Covid derailed things last year, they had a 1,000-yard rusher for like 10 consecutive years. This season, they rank #127 (out of 130) in the country at 74.6 rushing yards per game. Of the 373 rushing yards they've accumulated on the season, 148 came against Utah State (#113 against the run), which was below the average that Utah State surrenders on the ground. Their best running back, George Holani, has battled injuries both this season and last, and left the Nevada game early. He is questionable for this game.
Their passing game has had to pick up a lot of the slack. They rank #17 in the country in passing yards with 305.8 per game. Their starting quarterback, Hank Bachmeier, has played pretty well in spite of essentially no running game to back him up. He has also had very little pocket protection. He gets hit a lot. He's been sacked 9 times this season, but he often stands in the pocket and gets the pass off just before taking the hit, so the sacks don't tell the whole story of the abuse he's taken.
He has some talented receivers. Their best is Khalil Shakir. They'll look to get the ball in his hands whatever ways they can because he's really good in open space. Stefan Cobbs has apparently been injured most of the season, but reeled in 10 receptions for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns in their loss to Nevada.
Their secondary, which was expected to be the weakest defensive unit coming into the season, has probably been the strongest. Their defensive line and linebacking group have really struggled against the run (#106 nationally, giving up 191.2 yards/game). Part of that is because of injuries. Their passing defense has been better, ranking #64 in passing yards allowed at 220.6 per game. They've also been much improved this season at taking the ball away. They are tied for 8th nationally in turnovers gained. They've collected 7 interceptions and recovered 5 fumbles.
BYU has a big advantage in the trenches. I expect BYU to be able to run the ball. If Conover is the starter at QB, I expect BSU to load up on the line of scrimmage and force Conover to beat their skilled DBs over the top. That could result in turnovers.
When BYU is on defense, I expect them to largely bottle up Boise's running game and get to the QB a few times. They'll want to be measured on the pressure they bring, though. Bachmeier is a third-year starter who can probably recognize certain pressures and BSU does have talent in the receiver core that can make them pay for blitzing.
BSU is wounded but not dead. They are dangerous. They would love to spoil this season for BYU just like BYU spoiled BSU's 2019 season.
I'm expecting a BYU victory, but it wouldn't necessarily take too many mistakes to turn this game around for BSU.

The crazy thing about this year is that we are 5-0 and still have not put together a complete game.
Also, it seems like in all five games, we have been able to grind it out in the fourth quarter with smash-mouth football. Would love to have a huge lead for a change, but it is comforting to know that we have been able to fall back on that to win games.

I was surprised to see Shakir come back. Could he have gone pro after last year?

He's listed as a senior on the roster, so I think he would have been eligible. I think he's skilled enough to play at the next level. He's had a few incredible catches so far this year, too.

Bachmeier has the ability to carve our D apart. We're going to have to get to him. Their O-line held their own against Oklahoma State's large D-line, whether they rushed four or five. He's sneaky athletic too. He can scramble for big yards.
Shakir is going to be a problem. He's just hard to bring down. A real YAC monster, whether on WR screens or in the open field.
Even if we have a shaky Conover, I think Allgeier destroys the Broncos. UTEP, Okla. St, and UTEP all had power backs that picked up chunk yardage through huge holes in the d-line.
In addition, I'm not super impressed with their DBs. We should be able to use play action to our advantage.
I think Boise will be fired up for this game. It wouldn't surprise me at all for BYU to trail at the half. But I expect our lines to wear the Broncos down and win by 8-13 points when all is said and done.
If Hall or Romney are healthy, I think we win handily.

Good luck against Boise. I hate Idaho.
They're back in the Big Sky now.

I am torn. Changing the title seems to go against the winning routine, but the proposed change is a direct quote from Moose about the game which is more in line with previous titles.

However, the content of the original title is more in line with Moose's sentiment. The proposed amended title wishes us good luck, which Moose has previously not done. It maybe a trojan horse.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
