I don't doubt discussions could be happening but they would be leaked only to force the B10's hand to make a move. I actually think that might be BYU's only shot into the big leagues other than a invite with AF into the Pac14. B12 is a sailed ship, imho...we had our shot. They want to match up with the SEC and bully for them.
There is not chance to avoid the best teams in a round robin schedule. A round-robin produces a true conference champion where there can be no argument. Hard to argue that a 10 team Big 12 with a conference champion decided by a regular season would not get a seat at the 4 team playoff. A round-robin schedule only provides 3 opportunities to schedule down in the OOC games. Twelve team leagues typically have 4 opportunities to get a cupcake on the schedule.
What I am saying is that the complaint you raised that a round-robin schedule provides an opportunity to skate is simply not true. By definition a round-robin schedule provides zero opportunity to skate since you are required to play everyone in your league.
The only way the Big 12 goes to 12 teams is if it makes them more money or if the NCAA steps in and requires uniformity between conferences.
As Jacob already mention, a round robin still can leave plenty or room for argument. Like in 2008 where determining a divisional champ of the Big 12 South became controversial (3 teams with 1 loss: Texas beat OU who beat Tech who beat Texas). However, I agree that using the term "skate by" was inaccurate. It's certainly debatable whether a CCG or round robin is more difficult. The CCG model has the added difficulty of possible rematches - just ask Michigan St. who defeated Wisconsin in the regular season only to lose to the Badgers in the inaugural Big Ten CG. But the weakness of divisional play is that it is possible not to play a conference power on the way to the CCG (Michigan St. didn't play Penn St. last season).

This one is not happening. ND is holding out for the big10
It would be more accurate to state that the Big Ten is holding out for Notre Dame. The Irish have turned down the Big Ten twice now.
As much as I'd like to see BYU and Notre Dame join the Big 12 together, the more I think about it, the more I see Notre Dame in the Big Ten if the Irish ever ditch independence. In a heartbeat, Jim Delany would extend another offer to Notre Dame and the Irish would accept it this time. But why would Notre Dame join a conference? It's clear that money isn't their prime consideration or they would already be in the Big Ten. Notre Dame doesn't have a scheduling problem; Michigan, Michigan St., Purdue, USC, Navy, Stanford, and Boston College are on the Irish schedule every year. If ESPN works a friendly deal with BYU, God only knows (pun intended), what ESPN would do for Notre Dame.

Are you originally from Nebraska? I have only lived in Nebraska for three years. I grew up in Salt Lake City and followed Nebraska from afar during the Frazier, Frost, Crouch years. They have always been #2. LOVE going to games in Lincoln!
Not originally from Nebraska but my family moved to Lincoln in time for me to be reprogrammed from Buckeye to Cornhusker. I witnessed Vince Ferragamo to Turner Gill. Attended Nebraska pre-mission and transferred to BYU post-mission. Still have a lot of friends in Lincoln.
I'm also a big fan of BYU since that era was also the time of Jim McMahon and Steve Young. The tipping point for me was the 1984 season when all of Provo was cheering for Nebraska to lose so BYU could reach #1. I wanted Tom Osborne to win a national title after coming so close the previous year in the 31-30 (go for two) loss to Miami in the Orange Bowl.

Understood, and respected. Go BYU! Go Big Red! Here's to a less crappy year of Independence and B1G play.
Tuesday chat with Wrubell is going on right now... Let's just say it sure seems like he has given up hope that BYU will join a real conference.
" I don't expect BYU to get an all-sports invite from any of the big boys, but I would hope that football-only is in play for potentially interested parties. No idea what would motivate the P12 to consider BYU, ever."
Follow along here.. He is very fixated on the idea that BYU is really focusing on what ND does
Keeping an eye on ND... what does that do for BYU? If they stay indy, great, we can play some games with them on occasion. If they join a conference, we are screwed.

BYU really screwed this one up

I sometimes wonder if leaving the conference hurt us. If we were in a conference and had a deadline to live by, then the other conferences would have a higher state of urgency. Not being in a conference gives the attitude, "well, we can always get BYU at anytime".

Yeah, that and a hugely over-inflated sense of self with regards to the program. But now I'm just getting cynical...

BYU is deluding itself by thinking it has the right to even hold ND's dirty socks. BYU is the weevil that sits on the cotton plant that is the source of the fibers for the socks that ND wears and gets dirty and throws away after a single use.
You and your brother keep beating this drum, but neither of you has provided a shred of evidence that BYU turned down or mis-negotiated anything.

What a bunch of morons.
I have no sources, but someone who claims to have sources says that there was a 2 hour conference call between AD's of BYU and ND earlier this week. He had no information on what the substance of the call was about. This individual has been hot and cold before. He knew about the MC renovations and the video boards at LES (including knowing who the company was that designed the system) well before anything was announced by BYU.
Regardless of whether he's right or wrong, I think it's crazy to say that ND and BYU have no common interests or that ND is so superior to BYU that they'd never work together if the goal benefited both schools. As the only two major independent FB teams, I can envision a lot of reasons and ways for BYU and ND to collaborate, especially in today's world of conference realignment armageddon.
