    Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!!

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

      • Jon Wilner's latest article:

The Pac-12 presidents and chancellors do not want to expand. Their strong preference is for Texas A&M-to-the-SEC to implode and for the Big 12 to remain viable — essentially, they want the status quo for as long as they can get it.

Why? Because they have everything they want.

The conference has stability… it has a football championship game … it has the richest TV deal in college sports history … and it has a wholly-owned network(s) to serve its fans, provide unprecedented exposure for its athletes, promote the league’s academic mission — and generate millions of dollars per school annually once it attains maximum distribution.

The CEOs believe the Pac-12 is the best-positioned conference in the country. They don’t want 16 teams, and they don’t want the SEC and Big Ten going to 16 teams, either.

I have a more optimistic take, reading in context:

Only if the SEC goes to 13 would the Pac-12 evaluate its options.

It won’t take Oklahoma unless A&M leaves first, despite the accelerated timeline laid out last week by Oklahoma President David Boren.

*** And yes, in all likelihood the Pac-12 would take Oklahoma and Oklahoma State even if Texas were off the table, multiple sources said.

“Right now, it’s wait-and-see mode,” added one. “The happiest result for the Pac-12 is if the status quo is maintained.”
So they're not looking to expand but they'd take OU and OSU. But in that scenario all of FBS college football will be thrown into disarray anyway.

I'm not sure why Missouri doesn't get more love in the PAC-16? It essentialy has part's of two very good TV Market's in St. Louis and Kansas City, has been rumored to be a candidate for the Big Ten and the SEC. Is a member of AAU and makes a mean Okra Casserolle.

Mizzou is claiming to have been contacted by every conference. I don't believe it. At least I don't believe that there is real interest from any of these conferences in them.

It doesn't seem like anyone wants mizzou. I know red legger was pretty emphatic about the despicability of the tigers, so maybe they just are unlikeable.

Here's to hoping that Larry Scott really doesn't have his eyes set on expansion beyond 12. I think that the SEC is going to settle down and tell aTm SOL. It will be enjoyable to watch the aTm have to go back to the B12 like mizzou did and grovel a bit. The B12 will be okay once it gets its act together and enjoys cohesiveness rather than competing against one another in silly gamesmanship and posturing.

This is my impression as well. Mizzou has thrown themselves at everyone to the point that desperate isn't even the right word to describe them.

                    • thinking out of the box ...

if a PAC-16 happens, then I hope they would consider adding more conference games to each schools schedule. Instead of a 9 game conference schedule, I'd much rather see a 10, 11 or even 12 game schedule and eliminate out of conference games all together.

Utah would have seven games against the East Division and 4-5 games against the West Division. I don’t know if there are any NCAA rules that prohibit the number of conference games a school can schedule, but I’d welcome this for a 16 team league.

all of the PAC-16 Eastern Division Schools want/need to play in Southern California. CU, UA, ASU and Utah need to play in Southern California for recruiting purposes. OU, OSU, and whomever else makes up the 16 want to play in So Cal. Expanding the conference schedule from 9 games to 12 games you could most likely have a game at USC or UCLA 3 out of every 4 years.

The only issue I can see is the annual Notre Dame vs USC games.
