Notre Dame has a dated deal. They made a deal that was good at the time for both parties but now is not so good for the TV guys and the BCS guys. As a result, next go around, ND is out in the cold. The BTN has demonstrated the ability to make conference members as rich as ND's NBC deal. ND has rivalries with key Big Ten teams. The BCS + BTN + ND will have more pull and make more money for ND than ND's current deals with NBC and the BCS unless ND goes to a BCS game. ND football is not going to a BCS game in the next 5 years.Originally posted by Jeff Lebowski View PostWhy would ND not want to join the Big Ten at this point?
I short, I don't know why they would NOT want to go except to keep out of an overly large conference.

I think the bluff was more by A&M than Texas. Maybe A&M was thinking that Texas would join them in going to the SEC and maybe even convinced the SEC in thinking they could rope them in. Maybe Texas has called their bluff. If A&M folds on the idea of going to the SEC and comes along then we will know.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostWhat are they bluffing for? Wasn't it Nebraska seeking some type of equal revenue sharing formula? With Nebraska gone it seems to me that UT got whatever it was Nebraska was trying to get, so what is left to bluff for?
As for the Longhorn TV network that is pretty much dead any way you think about it. If Texas, et. el. go to the Pac-10 they will be sharing revenue. If the Big 12 survives then you can bet the remaining members (mainly OU and A&M) will demand revenue sharing."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

I agree with all of this. The minute that contract with NBC is up, they will not be able to get the money they would make in the Little 11. Hell, I don't even think they will get the money they got the first time around. It isn't the 80's or early 90's in South Bend anymore when they were on top of college football. IMO it would be stupid for Notre Dame not to go to the Little 11. That being said, their ego will stop them from making the move.Originally posted by KillerDog View PostNotre Dame has a dated deal. Fact: all schools need money. Fact: Private schools need money they can count on because they don't have state funds. Fact: ND is a private school.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostUltimately they'll join, you laid out the reasons why and money trumps pride even in South Bend.
In short, I agree with you. Money will decide this for ND and they'll go the the Big Ten. What the practical effect of that move is, is the real question.

To Ute fans: How often will Utah win a Pac16 south/east title (if it happens)?
Once every 5 years
Once every 10 years
Once every 20 years
Never.
And winning the division that the Texas and Oklahoma schools are in doesn't even get you a conference championship. Once every 10 years would be a pretty rosy view, IMO. I think that's what was implied by the statement that Utah becomes the new Baylor It will not be able to compete for conference championships.
So, is it the death knell for BYU? No. BYU will continue to get the same $$ it currently gets. It will win more games, championships and have consistently better and more top 25 rankings than Utah.
Since its inception, Texas and Oklahoma have won the Big 12 South every year (since 96), except for 2 years that A&M won in the 90s.
The change will give Utah a recruiting advantage, but I'm not sure that will last for the Utah and LDS kids.

In a week where any kernel of information could be a sign of bigger things to come, the timing of this news is certainly interesting. I'll let you draw your own wild conclusions."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

I don't think the timing is coincidental. The Big 12 is going to open a big ol can of whupass all over the Pac 10. mwaHAHAHAHA.Originally posted by VikingI must be stupid. I really don't get why Texas would want to be in the same league as USC.
The coach next door says that OU/UT stand to benefit a lot more from the new recruiting territory than a school like USC does. Kids all over the country would kill to play for USC. OU's and UT's recruiting is more a function of regional exposure.
