  • The Andrew Luck Sweepstakes

Who's going to win it by losing?

I think the frontrunner is Indy although KC is making a strong push. Right now it's a two horse race. Don't give me any crap about Minny, eventually they'll start finishing the second half of games when they realize they've been starting Donovan McNabb. Ponder will be an improvement.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

It's hard to argue against KC right now, IMO. I was shocked when they didn't get blown out Sunday.

I think Indy's worse. I don't think Indy has even played a playoff-bound team yet (I think Pittsburgh's o-line is a mess, Roethlisberger will end up missing games as a result and their defense is old). KC has played at least two playoff teams (Detroit and San Diego), the third is Buffalo and they're undefeated.

You may be right. I just think Indy's culture of winning will help them despite Peyton's absence. But then maybe that winning culture doesn't mean shit.

I want to believe that the Broncos, after winning a game they should have lost in week 1, figured out that the instant euphoria of defeating 3-4 crap teams will not make up for the pain of narrowly losing out on the next John Elway.

The 'Fins are set with Henne, though I suppose they like the idea of what trading the No. 1 spot would bring.

In all seriousness, I think Indy would heavily consider trading No. 1 overall to attempt to surround Manning with some pieces for his last run.

The AFC South has to play the NFC South this year? Ouch. The second worse division in football vs. the best division. Even Carolina seems to be frisky now, there's no easy win against those guys.

I think the scheduling evens out because the AFC West is playing the AFC East, probably the second best division, and the AFC West itself is probably better than the AFC South this year.

But they've only played one road game. I can see the Dolphins winning around 4 games and neither the Colts or Chiefs will sniff that this year.

However, the Dolphins do get to play the Chiefs this year so we'll see which team is smarter and chooses to just lay down for that game.

What is the chance Andrew Luck will 'Big Time' the team who drafts him, a la Eli "Archie's other kid" Manning did to San Diego, and got sent to NYG? Or as Eric Lindros did to the Nords to get sent to the Flyers?

                          Two things about the Dolphins:

                          1) Their head coach is playing for his job. Their front office would do well to can Sparano now and appoint an interim coach with the express instructions to play hard and lose hard.

                          2) they are actually better on the road than at home over the last two seasons.

I think this would be a mistake. I heard a rumor on Bill Simmons' podcast that someone called out to Manning at a restaurant or something and he had to turn his entire body to the guy rather than just turn his head.

Plus, they've tried building around Manning and they've ended up with Donald Brown and the shitty Tony Gonzalez the past few years.

They should cut the cord with Manning, trade him for whatever they can get and use that to build around Luck.
