  • Tour 2023

Three years ago it looked like Pogacar could go on to win 7 or 8 TdF's, last year Vingegaard beats him and now an Australian,Hindley, is in the mix. Makes for a much more excited race. FTR I miss creekster's comments.

I miss creekster comments as well.

Todays stage was great. Kuss is a killer.

Sometirms I wonder if Pogacar just doesn’t have the seriousness needed to win consistently. He sprints on every stage for time bonuses and then gets dusted on stages like today. It’s like he forgets he’s not in the Slovakia nationals and is instead racing against the best cyclists in the world. The Move podcast will be interesting to listen to on the way home from work today.

Bummer about Cavendish. I was thoroughly sick of the constant "where is MC" updates during each stage, but I was enjoying the idea that he might steal one like he almost did yesterday. Sucky end to an amazing career.

Sidenote: I have discovered the Wold Feed on Peacock that has no commercials and very few rider features. Basically, they never cut away from the race, going split screen if they do something on the side. You lose Phil and Bob but for me it's absolutely worth it.

That was an entertaining stage. It seems Pogacar has figured out that while he can't drop Jonas on the climbs, he can out punch him to the finish line and today really helped since he got a time bonus. If this TdF comes down to second and time bonuses then it'll be one for the ages. Tomorrow is a lot of climbing and a downhill finish so it probably favors Jonas, or at least I'd expect them to finish together. Sunday is another brutal day of climbing with an uphill finish so I wouldn't be suprised to see Pogacar in yellow going into the rest day. The time trial is probably a push so I wouldn't be surprised to see Stage 17 be the deciding stage.

It was also very impressive that halfway up the Grand Colombier that UAE still had five guys together (including Pogacar) while Jumbo only had three (well, the third was basically at hte back of the group). Sepp Kuss continues to be the best mountain domestique in the tour. He saved Jonas today when Yates took off and Jumbo had no idea what to do at first but Kuss caught him and brought the group together again. He's a stud.

Pogacar has an amazing ability to pull away at the end of a mt stage. Most of the time in the past a top rider would jump with maybe 1 or 2 km to go and pull away from there, Pogacar seems to hold it all until a couple of 100 meters to go, it's a little different but he has been able to pick up a lot of time bonuses along the way.

Wow. Jonas almost caught both Pogacar and Rodriguez. That was incredible. He won the tour today as long as he doesn’t make any dumb mistakes.

Incredible margin of victory with only 22 k of racing. He just follows Pogacar through the mountains and it's his.

Yep. He doesn’t have to worry about time bonuses or Pogacar taking 15 seconds at the end of a long climb. He out 3 minutes into WVA which is incredible.

Are we assuming nothing funny is going on with Jonas after that incredible effort?

I always assume they are all doping

These guys are tested like crazy now so I'm sure the sport is cleaner and if you are doping you don't just put that amount of time on someone. That raises too many eyebrows. If he's doping and he did that effort then he's really, really dumb. And today confirms he's just that much better.

They were tested like crazy during the Armstrong years. That was always the argument I used defending him all those years. “He’s the most tested athlete in history!” I’m highly suspicious of JV’s effort in the TT.

Its probably not interesting to most on this site but Kuss currently leads the Vuelta Espana and could potentially win the whole thing after Evenepoel lost 27 minutes (yes, he lost that much time) today. I’m sure Jumbos sights are on a podium sweep and Jonas looked much better today but I kind of wonder if Primoz and Jonas will pull a bit for Kuss in the hopes to give him a grand tour victory.

And Kuss is definitely a killer #GCKuss

I hope Jumbo supports Kuss with a grand tour win, if you are going to throw him a bone it might has well be a Vuelta. A podium sweep looks very possible right now.
