          • LOL @ SU claiming "Elite 8" and "Sweet 16" appearances in years in which those were just the second round, and when the NCAA tournament wasn't the big deal.

So yeah, congrats on your national championship in 1944 when the tourney was a whopping 16 teams and the best teams didn't even go to the NCAA. Not to mention a lot of the best players were probably busy saving the world anyway.

Edit: the field was actually only 8 before 1951. Count those Elite 8 appearances with pride!

Lawmakers were spurred to scrutinize the role collegiate sports in Utah, Urquhart said, after the University of Utah decided to put its basketball rivalry with Brigham Young University on hold, and the proposal to help Weber came after Urquhart and other lawmakers met with coaches and athletic directors around the state.

I am sure you guys should be able to claim a few elite 8 and sweet 16 appearance when the field was smaller, no?
