I don't have any ties to the program but with Delgado committing, the writing is on the wall for Martineau as he will not be asked back. They most likely will use his schollie on trying to get another big man. Martineau is so far down the bench he has no way of contributing in the future and with schollies so precious, no way he stays.

Delgado and Haws will get the scholarships of Abouo and Hartsock. Martineau's scholarship will go to Cusick.Originally posted by A-Train View PostI don't have any ties to the program but with Delgado committing, the writing is on the wall for Martineau as he will not be asked back. His ppg avg and the dearth of current outside shooters would suggest his scoring will be counted on in addition to his defense.Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostRose said Delgado's best asset is his defense. He sees him as replacing Abouo. I don't see him covering many big 3's or undersized 4's like Abwow can. It will be interesting to see how it develops. Perhaps Rose wants to redshirt Harrison and this kid might play a 2 similar to Jax. Cover the opponents best perimeter defender (either 1,2 or 3) and knock down open jumpers, thus allowing Carlino to focus on the offensive side of the court and coast on defense. Further, allowing Demarcus to redshirt might help Demarcus to reach his potential and also better allocate scholarships to year groups. Right now in 2014-2015 season BYU could have 6 seniors in Haws, Harrison, Carlino, Austin, Sharp and Winder. Of those 6 BYU could realisticly only redshirt Harrison and Austin as the others have already redshirted or are just too good to consider the option. If BYU can redshirt Harrison then next year BYU's scholarship situation is thus:Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostRose said Delgado's best asset is his defense. SR: 4 (Davies, Cusick/Martineau, Zylstra, Rogers)
JR: 2 (Collinsworth, Delgado)
SO: 5 (Haws, Carlino, Sharp, Winder, Austin)
FR: 2 (Harward, Harrison)
They could also potentially go get another JC 4 and pull Martineau's scholy while not awarding it to Cusick. If they do that and Collinsworth is healthy enough to play 20+ minutes a game BYU could conceivably redshirt Austin to further space out the scholarship allocation:
SR: 3 (Davies, Zylstra and Rogers)
JR: 3 (Collinsworth, Delgado and JC big)
SO: 4 (Carlino, Haws, Winder, Sharp)
FR: 3 (Harward, Harrison - RS, and Austin - RS)
But to be honest I see no way barring an injury Austin doesn't play next year. He is likely to be BYU's next best post scorer after Davies unless BYU can find another Aurajo caliber of JC transfers and those are rare.
To be clear every scenario leaves a scholarship open for Jabari Parker. Even if he wants to graduate from HS early and head to college next year, and lets be honest BYU is as close to high school, with university level academics and basketball competition, as he is going to find!Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

I think BYU has some good shooters. They are all just going through a slump at the same time. They need to hook up with the Omega Moos and break this slump!Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostHis ppg avg and the dearth of current outside shooters would suggest his scoring will be counted on in addition to his defense.
Trading Haws for Abwow helps BYU significantly on the offensive end. Abwow could wow it when he is hot but he is just so inconsistent and I don't think Haws is that way. He will be a consistent perimeter player for BYU next year. He might not be able to give 25-30 good minutes due to missionary legs and February and March might be a drag for him, but if he is used properly, 20-25 mpg, he should be fine.Do Your Damnedest In An Ostentatious Manner All The Time!

The only way some of these guys can break this slump is by dating the ugliest, fattest chick they can find and make out with her. According to Mark Grace (the baseball player) it has proven to be successful.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI think BYU has some good shooters. I would not be surprised if Rose has already told Martineau that he won't be back next year. He is by far the worst player on the whole team, Practice players included. I am still baffled how that dude earned a schollie coming out of high school. I still laugh when people were saying he would be the heir apparent to Jimmer when he came home off his mission. That message died the 1st moment he stepped on the court and people thought what Church League team did this guy come from?Originally posted by cougjunkie View PostMartineau would have been gone this year if Dave Rose would have found a JC wing like he wanted.
Rose has come a long ways with the type of players he is now getting.

When Rose said he'll take the place of Abouo, I don't think he meant the same position. I think he meant he'll take the role as the best on ball defender. Honestly, I think we're probably in for a rough year next year, with the following year getting back to a contender to win a game or two in the NCAA tournament. A lot of it is going to depend on Harrison developing his game over the next few years. This team is about where I expected them to be. They're a solid NIT team. In fact I would rather them play in the NIT and get more experience than getting blown out in the first round of the NCAA Tourney.Originally posted by Goatnapper'96 View PostI don't see him covering many big 3's or undersized 4's like Abwow can."To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail."

I hope you're in the minority here. You'd rather make the NIT and win a couple games than make the NCAA Tourney and potentially lose in the 1st Round?Originally posted by WashingtonCoug View PostThis team is about where I expected them to be. No way, Jose. NCAA Tournament any day of the week.
Heck, if someone told me the Zags would have to forfeit their 11-year run as WCC Champions to make the NCAA Tourney, I'd choose the latter every time (which is very likely at this point anyway).
