Oh, and F those refs. The last 9+ minutes of regulation they got away with at least 1-2 fouls every single possession. BYU was very impressive from the FT line, shooting 81% and 31 attempts. Now that we have our FT shooting down, can we learn how to beat the press and deal with a defense that likes to get not just in your face, but in your jersey as well? I was getting so frustrated watching Demin time after time, just stand still at the top of the key, WAITING for the ISU defene to swarm him. Denim went out and we started playing fast and scoring, then Demin comes in and does the same thing again. The highlight of the game was the ally-oop with Hall, except rather than being the lobber, he was the dunker!! Not many teams win at ISU, so this was special.

Richie Saunders gets the Player of the Game. He has back-to-back B12 Player of the Week awards too. He had the best PER, GSc, and ORtg. 13/13 from the line is a great stat. He probably should have had another 5-10 FTAs. Knell had the best DRtg, which I find a bit of a surprise, but whatever. Boskovic had the best TS%. He took just 3 shots, but he made them count.

Mihailo Boskovic does get the Struggled to Perform. While he shot well, it was just 3 shots in 20 minutes, and he did very little else stat wise. He had the worst PER, GSc, ORtg, and DRtg. Knell had the worst TS%. I hope he's not hitting a slump.

BYU is now 22-8 (13-6) and #23 in Kenpom and was #27 in NET prior to today. Iowa St. is now #11 in Kenpom and was #9 in NET. Stack that Quad 1 win baby! The last regular season game will be at home vs Utah. They are #69/#64. We gotta beat them. This is almost a Q3 game and I don't want a Q3 loss on our records. Let's blow them out of the building!

    Great breakdown. Thanks!

We didn't have enough good wins yet in large part due to the non conference schedule being so weak. I thought we could make up for that eventually as we played more conference games and racked up some q1 and q2 wins. Yes, we are playing better as well but I never thought being slightly on the wrong side of the bubble at the time was from playing badly. It was from not having done enough yet against q1 and q2 opponents.

          • When I consider great wins in BYU hoops history last nite has the potential to be one of the best. IMO, the greatest BYU regular season win was beating SDSU in San Diego Jimmer's senior year. Last night's win has similar potential because that win is likely to continue to improve BYU's seeding in the NCAA Tournament which significantly increases the probability of post season success and memorable wins which were made possible by last night. What a great year BYU is having. I don't know yet know where this team sits in the decent pantheon of BYU basketball greats but this run to end this year has been more memorable and impressive than any I remember. Part of that is the opportunity afforded by being a member of the Big 12 and getting to play great teams so frequently, but holy crap BYU has played exceptional basketball for 3 weeks straight game in and game out against top tier competition. Beating Arizona and ISU on the road-are you freaking kidding me?

I think BYU has played itself into at least a 6 seed for the NCAA tourney-and I think each win in the Big 12 Tourney will improve seeding by 1. I keep telling myself this is KY's first year-and certainly the first half of the year provided evidence he had a learning curve and that is possible with the postseason-but color me amongst the believers and deeply impressed how he built this squad and how he puts the pieces together. So far he is looking like the perfect hire at the perfect time-but age and wisdom have taught me things are rarely as good or as bad as they appear at the moment. So I am trying to stay grounded about the future. So much to still enjoy this year I desperately hope, but before that opportunity presents itself BYU gets the chance to beat Utah fairly badly on Saturday. Watching my beloved Bulldogs pound Grapevine's beloved Devils and then BYU thumping Utah would be a wonderful Saturday!

So true, and much of the fun is seeing the team develop and gaining confidence. So many on CB were questioning KY as a coach two months ago but have switched their song faster than Christie, Rubio, and Vance did about Trump (not sure why I went there).

We've come back for Saturday's game (oh, and our youngest's wedding Friday, a sidelight). I haven't divulged to the missus my $250/ticket purchase for the game but if she finds out and craps on my purchase I will remind her of the many Broadway musical tix I've bought for her. I expect Saturday evening to be of greater value.

                    • I thought it was odd that the announcers never put it together that BYU played great D from the opening whistle. They kept talking about ISU D and no BYU score for 6 minutes which yeah, was crazy but ISU only had 5 points in the same time frame. They were just repeatedly amazed BYU had "come back", when the largest deficit was, what, 9?

The defense was incredible all night. Keita has really caught fire and is a beast on the boards and protecting the rim. I can't believe that guy was at Utah. One of my favorite things was hearing the play-by-play guy be astounded by Keita rebounds TWICE. He couldn't believe either one.

The opportunity to play and win these type of games (and at Arizona, against Kansas, etc.) is that the team will not be phased by anything in the tourney. They can still crap the bed, but they won't be intimidated. Hope they work some more on how to beat the press though.

Turns out his wrong line was much more accurate than the actual line.
