BYU Basketball 2023-2024

SDSU just beat Washington on a neutral court. After we beat them, I fully expected, based on my long history as a BYU fan, that SDSU would turn out to be actually terrible. Since then, they have beaten Long Beach St, St. Mary's, and now Washington. None of these are real good wins, but they also aren't awful wins. It will be interesting to see where they go from here.

Also, we really need to beat another (potentially) good team, because I really can't cheer for SDSU.

My dad is an alum of Suck Dawg State. Many of my HS classmates went to San Diego for college. The kids I went to class with went to UCSD, the kids I hung out with on the quad went to Suck Dawg State. There are more UCSD grads in my HS class than Suck Dawg State grads......lots of people go to college for 7 years. I like SDSU- Go Aztecs!

I still am prone to believe in a world of extreme overreactions the love of BYU is a bit of an overreaction. I think BYU is good enough to get to the NCAA tournament- even without Adams, Baker and Khalifa this season, but when I read of top 25 rankings I think the national punditry is getting ahead of itself. The two games this week will shed more light on BYU. I don't think the two teams BYU will play this week are great but they are solid programs and have good coaches with decent athletes. The games are also away from the Marriot Center.

This team reminds me of the Rose teams before Jimmer was an upperclassmen-except I think BYU actually plays significantly better defense than those teams did. I think we know we are significantly improved from last year but it is much easier to go from the #80 team in the country to the #40 team than it is to go from #40 to #25.

33 seconds left of a blowout game and AAA is so stupid. Could be massive reppercussions. AAA deserves a multi game suspension

Poorly officiated for much of the game. Perhaps the best example was the foul called on Traore for having placed his face where the ASU player wanted to put his elbow. Should have been an offensive foul call even if there were no contact to his face.

Poor shooting to start the game in spite of getting many good looks. First game away from the MC may have something to do with it, but ASU was also physical and disruptive which may have had them rushing their shots.

ASU did not shoot well, even when they had open shots. Even the free throw line was a struggle for them.

Atiki needs to learn some self-control. He needs to understand that his retaliation hurts the team. Looks like both he and Waterman (and maybe Johnson) will all gave to sit out against NC State tomorrow. That leaves 6' 6" Traore as the only big for BYU. Not ideal.

I agree with Piney that Hurley was very punchable. Much prefer having Pope's demeanor on the sideline.
