George would have lost all credibility for his books in those days if his son had refused to go on a mission.

Yep, those were different times for sure. Our family has had quite a few connections to George and Devin over the years. Great people.

        Worst Moose Stubing call ever:
Really. There's no other call he ever could have made in his long career that could have been worse than this one --

1984 BYU at Wyoming. Wyoming is up by 1 in the closing seconds of the game. BYU has the ball and Devin Durrant ends up with it driving into the paint and gets fouled with like 2 seconds left. Durrant doesn't miss free throws in situations like this. BYU is going to win.

But no! Moose Stubing surprises everyone in the entire arena and suddenly comes over from the other side of the court to waive off the foul because he said it never happened because he had blown his whistle to be able to clear crap off the floor that the hometown Wyoming fans had thrown onto it. Here's the problem. He insisted his whistle came first, stopping the play, but no one else thought that until he said so. For all anyone else thought, he was calling the same foul. The visiting team gets punished for bad behavior from the home fans and BYU loses the regular season conference championship to UTEP by one game. Plus they lost the would be tiebreaker because of this game. They win and per the conference rules at the time would have hosted the conference tournament instead of UTEP. The following year because of this game they institute a rule change where the home team can be assessed a technical when its crowd does something like that.

Yeah, I don't think I have forgiven him yet for that, although maybe it helped a little when he admitted in a newspaper article a few years later that he felt bad and regretted that call.

Unbelievable…there’s shit on the floor and you expect Moose to just keep calling the game like nothing happened??

Yes. It was on the other side of the court and the foul stopped the play already. It happened at the same time. Clear the stuff off the floor right before he takes the free throw. Use some common sense.

Common sense for a ref means sticking to the rules.

What's the rule in this case? Foul takes precedence when two things happen at the same time.
