Yeah, the old, big bucks taste like crap... the little baby deer are not bad but who wants to shoot them.

The same is true for wild hogs. I will only eat the babies.

None of it compares to a gunnery experience in the M1A1.

I haven't had that experience ( the M-1 was just starting to be deployed when I was playing Army), but I have fired a LAW, popped a Claymore mine and dropped rounds down an 81MM mortar tube - all of those were a whole lot more fun that firing a rifle. My brother who has fired an M-1A1 main gun agrees with 'Napper.

When I was younger (late '70s early 80s) I saw some published stats that about 91,000 people were in the hills trying to shoot Bambi - I sat down a figured out that was more than the number of infantry in the whole US Army - back when the end strength of the army was 775K people

Yea, I am with cowboy on this... maybe it comes from my rural Idaho upbringing on a cattle ranch. I stopped hunting many, many years ago but when it comes to coyotes I will shoot the hell out of them and throw them in the fire. And I don't care if they suffer in the process. I guess I have seen too many cattle killed by those SoBs. I guess this is why I still have I have scary looking rifles with suppressors and fancy scopes, and a good selection of handguns. Also, I am also open to the occasional wild hog hunt. Those basturds make a mess of farmers' fields and deserve to die as well. But when it comes to deer and other God's sweet creatures they have done nothing to me so I let them be. I can't believe JL finds enjoyment hunting down and killing those wonderful animals.

I don't have any sentiment one way or another, except to hunt only animals you, your family or your friends will eat, or vermin such as coyotes and other worthless animals.

If you lived in a city like Ithaca, which a deer abatement program, you might find these creatures so loving.

Last year the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) chose to create its first Deer Management Focus Area (DMFA) in Tompkins County. Within this 60,000-acre area hunters will be allowed to take two antler-less deer per day for the duration of the hunting season. Hunters who are part of the DFMA program must get a permit for each day they hunt, but that permit can be procured on line.

This program was instituted locally in part because of the data gathered by wildlife experts at Cornell. The university has used a hunting program to control deer for decades, but in 2008 they inaugurated the Earn-a-Buck program, which required registered hunters to kill two does before they were allowed to shoot a buck.

“Between 2008 and 2011 we kept the numbers stable,” said Extension Wildlife Specialist Paul Curtis. “We saw no reduction in abundance.”

Curtis said that the DEC was aware of the high deer numbers in Tompkins County. He and his team have estimated numbers using cameras at bait stations and found that deer densities were exceeding 100 animals per square mile in some parts of the county.

The Deer Management Focus Area in central Tompkins County is intended to help communities in the Ithaca area manage the burden of overabundant deer populations by intensifying deer hunting opportunities.

This is a touchy-feely community if ever there was one. I don't know where people are allowed to buy guns in NY, but somehow they do.

What happens to the carcasses? “We do one of two things: we have a deer composting pile, where we turn it into topsoil, or we send them to the recycling center. [The cost per deer] varies; it doesn’t matter if it’s one deer or five, it’s a five-dollar fee to drop them at the recycling center.”

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has established a deer management focus area “to enable intensive management of over-abundant deer populations” in areas around New York, including Ithaca and Tompkins County. Hunting is legal from January 14 to 31.

Cornell researchers have also created "buck magnets":

Scientists discovered that their program accidently created "buck magnets" by preventing doe pregnancy. From the Post:

"Under normal conditions, all female whitetails go into heat within several weeks of each other and become pregnant at around the same time. This annual event is called the rut. However, if a doe is not impregnated during the rut, it will enter heat again the following month and again the month after that. Because the ligated does were unable to become pregnant, they continued to produce chemical signals of readiness to reproduce -- signals that can attract bucks from miles away."

She was standing in our field munching grass looking too much like a ring neck, I guess, so as to confuse them. She survived, but I could not believe they could make such a mistake. Despite suspicions and the conclusions of common sense, they swore they had not been drinking. But, even so....

That is a valid observation. We've a number of cattle that hunters apparently mistook for deer. I can see why a black Angus steer resembles a mule deer doe.

Hunting can be a wonderful bonding experience, filled with the excitement of the chase. But drunken idiots who kill your livestock and horses are a menace to society. Perhaps this is what the Second Amendment means to be able to stave off the true vermin.

So - listened to my favorite conspiracy theory packed conservative radio show on the way into work this morning. I swear - at some point I may need to start a threat to keep a collection of all of their stuff in one place.

There is a HUGE coverup going on here - and no one is reporting on it!

First of all - there were MULTIPLE mass shootings that all happened at the same time. This was not a lone wolf as has been reported. There were also mass shootings at the Bellagio, Tropicana, and a couple of other casinos that I don't remember the names of. But the casinos control the news, and don't want people to think there is anything dangerous that would keep people from coming to gamble, so it's all been hushed.

Second of all - this guy was somehow connected to the US government. He HAD to be. The US government regularly uses casinos to launder money and give it to people it has hired. He had $5 million reported in gambling winnings on his taxes - that's just laundered money from the US government and the deep state people. This guy had VIP passes from the casino and got complementary rooms. Casinos don't give VIP passes to winners - they kick out winners and ban them from returning. They only give VIP passes and comp rooms to people who come and lose a lot of money.

You can't trust anything from the government - the FBI is controlling all of the information. They confiscated the cell phones and cameras from everyone attending the concert in order to collect "evidence". But when they returned everyone's phones, the video and photos had all been wiped. Because they don't want any evidence out there that contradicts their story of what happened.

I haven't had this much fun since I used to drive home late from work as a teen listening to Coast to Coast radio.

Ha! I love these types of things. Last week I was in a small Texas town for work and I always listen to the loca political talk shows when I’m driving around. The local guy was calling out the govt to release a bunch of stuff he thought the govt had on the multiple shooters. He was basically blaming the media for covering up all the multiple Muslim shooters that were the real shooters and framing the old white guy. It was bizzaro world to listen to the ranting, but it became scarier as the people calling in were agreeing with him and then going off on Muslims and how they are trying to take over the public schools and impose Sharia law on everyone. Kind of sad, but entertaining.
