But there isn't a liberal parallel to libs of TikTok. Do you have an opinion on these specific issues or you just trying to do a gotcha?

Because targeting ordinary people for severe life-ruining bullying is fucked up. That's what that account does.

You think Obama encouraged swatting and death threats to business people who wouldn't sell cakes to gay couples? No

You don't need to both-sides every thing.
The recent wave of cancel culture (starting back in the early or mid 2010s) literally started with the liberals. I saw it firsthand with a friend of mine. Conservatives have just mirrored the same process.

I'm not excusing either group from what is a stupid and hurtful practice and I'm not "bothsidesing" this. It literally was done by liberals and people were literally fired, sometimes for things they did decades ago that were socially acceptable back then but are no longer socially acceptable.

It seems about as normal as it gets for a university professor. They love virtue signaling with self-righteous posters on their office door.

It's bad regardless of whoever does it. It was never just a liberal thing, remember the Dixie Chicks being black listed and cancelled for talking shit about W?

My point is that it's now articulated as MAGA strategy.

Yeah, true... Now why I remember why I dropped out of my PhD and left academia. I have never regretted it.

                Speaking of cancel culture...

                Too soon.

You're right. Most professors I've known would have had a much more visceral reaction to an unknown person putting stuff on their office door without so much as a hello. That space is reserved for the professor's. If he wants to put math jokes there, he can. If he wants to put old Calvin and Hobbes strips, that's his purview. For someone not him to put something there?

This guy was unusually calm and measured, despite the behavior of the videographer seeking 15 minutes of fame.

Also, since when did we start equating the paper something is written on with the meaning of the writing itself? He didn't reject the Family Proc. He threw away trash.

Facts. People say they hate cancel culture until it aligns with their worldview and then it's just holding people/institutions accountable. It seems like it's just an extension of traditional honor culture and reflects the weaknesses/gaps of traditional institutions. Conservatives seem to have a particular blind spot on the issue and can simultaneously whine about cancel culture while cheering on Kid Rock unloading an AR into a case of Bud Light.

That's your reaction to harassment of the professor for speaking his opinion?

Yeah. As well as my experience throughout undergrad and law school. I'm not condemning him. Seemed about what I'd expect.

Isn't the harassment worse than the action ?

There wasn't anything wrong with the professor did. That was my point. I don't think the harassment was particularly bad either. Maybe by BYU standards it was somewhat aggressive, but whoever did it was polite throughout the posted interaction. It did remind me of the Ryan Reynolds-Will Farrel Christmas movie where they sing a song about how saying 'good day' is really saying 'f you.' I do find both approaches obnoxious, unnecessary, preachy, and unhelpful.

                            • The most shocking thing I observed election night was that Baron Trump is apparently 6'9" now. Last photo i saw of him was during Trumps first term getting of of AF1 messing with a fidget spinner.
