Doesn’t Texas still have some dry counties?

The Texas senate still has to vote and it's less clear they'll have the two-thirds needed. Adding to the drama is that his wife is a state senator.

Yes, there is. When I came back across from Tamaulipas into Texas, on foot, the state agent (outside the federal customs/immigration) who was stopping cars, leaned out the little booth and yelled, "Any alcohol?" We didn't have any, so he waved us on.

My Houstonian cousin wants to Make Texas a Nation Again. I would love to watch them pass a Brexit-style, no forethought kind of secession bill and then watch the US Army walk in and napalm Uncle Ted and his AR-15 (for hog hunting only).

I suggest we offer Texas a nice package to follow through. Maybe offer to throw in Arizona if they agree to expedite the secession.
As a Texas resident and registered voter I would vote no, cancelling out Ted's vote.

On a positive note, the convention has renewed hopes that Texas might secede from the Union.

The proposed platform (it’s expected to be approved when votes are tallied) adds: “Texas retains the right to secede from the United States, and the Texas Legislature should be called upon to pass a referendum consistent thereto.” It wants the secession referendum “in the 2023 general election for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation.”
