This reminds me of a bad experience I had as a Plebe back in the day. One of our Plebe duties was to call "Minutes" before every formation. What this included was standing at various locations in the barracks hallways and in unison screaming out: "AAAAAAAAAAAAHTENTION AAAAALLLLL CADETS...THERE ARE 5 MINUTES UNTIL ASSEMBLY FOR BREAKFAST FORMATION. THE YOOOOOOOOUUUUUUNIFORM IS AS FOR CLASS WITH GRAY JACKETS AND BLACK GLOVES. THE MENU FOR BREAKFAST IS: EEEEEEGS MCCARTHUR (some of you might know those as Eggs Benedict but we were forbidden from saying that traitor's name unless in an academic environment), BREAKFAST POTATOES, ASSORTED CEREALS AND ORANGE JUICE...FIVE MINUTES REMAINING!!!!!"
As you can read this went on for more than a few moments and was quite loud. I once had to deliver laundry to a cadet room where one of the occupants was rather attractive, suffice to say she would have gotten CPT Stillman's attention, and the other was what mormons might call a "sweet spirit." I was knocking on the door as my fellow Plebes called out the minutes and I thought nobody responded (the regulation was to knock 3 times and if nobody responded enter and deliver the item) when I entered.....through counseling and various other treatments I made it through for God and Country.
Regardless the story made me think of "Stripes" and the wacky place that West Point was/is.
