  • Romney's Tax Returns

It's so obvious why Romney won't release all his tax returns. He has been fudging on his tithing.

He released two years. He paid 7% the first year and 12% the second year to make up for it.

He probably paid on his net until 2 years ago.

There is no other reason for him to be holding back. He doesn't want the Mormon empire to see that he was cheap.

"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

It's not that. He's been divorcing himself from Bain post-1999. I'd bet in the years after 99 but before and after he was governor, he got a nice chunk of change from them.

Edit: I'm not a securities lawyer--would Bain have to report executive salaries? If so, the above is clearly not an issue.

I think Romney should release more tax returns, but how many? I'm sure that no matter how many he were to release, the opposition would demand more.

Given that Romney is very careful and calculating, and that he has been aiming for the presidency for many years, I'd be surprised (and very disappointed) if his returns revealed anything embarrassing other than a low tax rate. Better to take that hit now than let this drag on for another 3+ months.
