Romney versus Obama

As much as I don't think Romney is a great politician and I'm not liking the tribalism I'm exhibiting, I need to support him because I consider myself a pragmatic conservative and his philosophies pretty much line up with mine and he has shown to be a competent leader.
I haven't been very impressed with Obama and don't see very many compelling reasons to vote for him.
I won't win very many fans here saying this (particularly in Utah), but it would be a much more difficult choice for me if it was Romney against Hillary Clinton. I think like Romney she would government more pragmatically and is pretty conservative for a Democrat, more so than Bill was.
I have never voted for a Republican or Democrat for president. 2008 was the first election I had the right to vote in and I voted for the Libertarian. I would have had to hold my nose to vote for either John McCain or Obama and since it didn't really matter in Utah, I went Libertarian.

I'm not in Utah and we don't talk politics in the wards I've lived in. My dislike for Obama is purely performance-based. The guy and his "brain trust" are obviously clueless about the economy.
This election is all about the economy, the size and efficiency of our government and how to make the fundamental changes necessary to meet our government's future financial obligations, particularly as it pertains to entitlement programs.
Romney is the only candidate remotely qualified to deal with these problems. If he doesn't get nominated, I'm not voting.

Ever since I followed Obama on Twitter, I have started to believe this more and more. I've never seen the use of the word "free" than I have in his (or obvioulsy his administration) tweets. I think he's a guy with a very good heart that really wants to help the less fortunate, but he's doing it at a pace that is clearly unsustainable.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostI'm not in Utah and we don't talk politics in the wards I've lived in. Well, if he truly wants to help the less fortunate then he can start by getting these people back from fighting wars and sacrificing their lives in foreign countries like he promised (i.e. "you can take it to the bank") before he was elected. Good hell, it is not rich boys like Romney's sons fighting these wars.Originally posted by Moliere View PostEver since I followed Obama on Twitter, I have started to believe this more and more. Also, for those that say if Romney doesn't get nominated then they are not voting... this seems like a dumb thing to do, IMHO. If anything write in someone like Ron Paul or vote for the Libertarian to make a "statement vote" to the republican and democratic party. I have been fed up with both parties and voting pretty much Libertarian for some time now."If there is one thing I am, it's always right." -Ted Nugent.

You'll vote for Romney. We'll all vote for Romney. We are tribal like that. Hey, I'd even vote for Harry Reid if he were running for President.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostWell, if he truly wants to help the less fortunate then he can start by getting these people back from fighting wars and sacrificing their lives in foreign countries like he promised (i.e. "you can take it to the bank") before he was elected. Until the Libertarians can put forth a credible candidate, they won't get my vote. I don't need my protest vote look to the Libertarians like a vote of support for the lame group of incompetents they trot out.Originally posted by Uncle Ted View PostWell, if he truly wants to help the less fortunate then he can start by getting these people back from fighting wars and sacrificing their lives in foreign countries like he promised (i.e. "you can take it to the bank") before he was elected. I'd vote for Obama before Reid (but would only vote if there was a gun indenting my temple).Originally posted by Moliere View PostYou'll vote for Romney. We'll all vote for Romney. We are tribal like that. Hey, I'd even vote for Harry Reid if he were running for President.

I like Obama, but he's such a shit talker- reminds me of a boss who promises, promises, promises, but is ultimately clueless. Romney is seemingly incapable of talking shit, and seems like he'd rather duck the press conference so he can go and get shit done. Oh plus he's Mormon and so am I, so there's that.

Then write-in rich-boy Romney instead of doing a no-vote. Or mickey mouse if that is your style. (In some ways Mickey would actually do a better job as president, IMHO.) The point is to vote for someone instead of not voting like you don't care.Originally posted by Indy Coug View PostUntil the Libertarians can put forth a credible candidate, they won't get my vote. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't vote for Harry ("$54 billion dollars is only pocket change") Reid even if he was just running for high school student body president.Originally posted by Moliere View PostYou'll vote for Romney. Now you've gone too far. Our tribalism doesn't extend that far. Harry Reid would lose a presidential election in Utah by a landslide, no matter the republican opponent.Originally posted by Moliere View PostYou'll vote for Romney. We'll all vote for Romney. True, I did go too far. I forgot that we are only tribal with those who are in-the-box Mormons. Clearly a Democrat would be out of the box, so we would shun him like a gay child, or at least like Huntsman.Originally posted by Jacob View PostNow you've gone too far. Reid's problem isn't being a Democrat; his problem is the things he's said and done while in office.Originally posted by Moliere View PostTrue, I did go too far.
