I do think having a scooter at college would be super convenient and make getting around awesome. May have to think about that for my son.

When we bought our e-bikes years ago I was feeling flush with cash, and I was considering throwing in a onewheel with our purchase. I didn't and still haven't tried one, partly because a friend of a similar age had a freak accident on one. He just bought his and all he did was fall off it while going slowly. He broke his leg.

I was just thinking about that a day or two ago when there was someone riding an e-bike or similar in the bike lane next to me, going nearly thespeed limit on the street. Don't know who it was, if they're licensed to operate motor vehicles, if they have a motorcycle endorsement, or if they have any safety training at all before riding.

I believe Idaho recently proposed and/or passed regulations relating to riding them, but I am not sure.

I don't support going after the retailers for illegal sales unless there were laws on the books that prohibited the sale of those vehicles at the time of the sales.

Yeah, this is the wrong way to go about it, but the bottom line is these things need regulation. What he should be announcing is that they are putting a temporary restriction on the sales of these within NYC boundaries while the city council works on passing laws to regulate their use on city property and streets. These need to be regulated the same way motorcycles are regulated, because they are just as dangerous. Require a driver's license to use one on city streets, prohibit use on sidewalks and crosswalks, etc.

Kind of timely, two young teenage girls were killed in Syracuse, UT on electric scooters. A recent convo with an ER nurse had her saying she would never buy an e-scooter or E-bike for her kids, based on the number of injury she sees come in.
Utah just passed laws this past year to help regulate them.
He’s approaching this with. a heavy hand instead of a more measured approach. But it’s definitely a safety issue, not just to the users but others as well.

Meh. It raises eyebrows because he's the elected leader of a city that has more people than a lot of states. But is this really 2 standard deviations away from other city ordinances, like alcohol-related or traffic rules?

Promise to America Initiative pledged by 2-democrats got 13 signatures from its own party of 212 house members. The pledge was the support of capitalism and not socialism.

The announcement came two days after candidates backed by the Democratic Socialists of America won House Democratic primaries in New York, which followed last week’s victory by Janeese Lewis George, another DSA-backed candidate, in D.C.’s mayoral primary.

“They should not be the face of our party,” said Jessica Killin, a Democratic candidate running in a competitive Colorado district. “We need to be organized and clear in our vision.”

Killin is one of the 13 who signed on to the “Promise to America” initiative that commits candidates to a set of centrist principles, including capitalism, fiscal discipline, strong borders and pride in the United States.

The DSA is making alarming progress in the Dem party and there are those who think on their utopian ideals that they can all play under the same tent, but the reality is one will eventually eat the other. And as of right now.. Communism seems to be the Soup De Jour for young Americans who have been raised to hate the fundamental ideas of capitalism and hard work.
