  • 2024 Presidential Election Thread

In the land of perpetual election season, is it ever too early to talk about the next election? I say nay.

Let's start off with the presumptive GOP frontrunner DeSantis. Yesterday he talked about the death penalty in front of a very hostile crowd, the Florida Sherrif's Association. And gosh darnit, he's complaining that it's too hard for the state to kill people. He wants a return to a supermajority for death penalties, something the SCOTUS outlawed in Florida in (I can't believe I'm saying this) 2016. MAGA, I guess.

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...unanimous-jury

Here he is musing on the right number the state needs to convince a jury for the death penalty:

“Fine, have a super-majority,” DeSantis told the Florida Sheriffs Association on Monday. “But you can’t just say one person votes no.”

“Maybe eight out of 12 or something,” he added.
    Maybe. Why not 7?
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
"You are an intemperate, unscientific poster who makes light of very serious matters.”

        Sorry. There's no one.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Agreed. What a disaster that would be.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

What about for the Dems? Is Grandpa Joe going to run again? Or is the Deep State going to knock him out with all those documents they keep finding?

What about Gav "anti-2nd Amendment" Newsom?

Here is the perfect running mate for Gav:

But Gav wants to do it all the way and take away all guns and not just your AR-15s. Because everyone knows that it's the guns that kill people... Just ask Alec "I didn't pull the trigger" Baldwin!

anti-2nd amendment. Has a nice ring to it. Don’t threaten me with a good time Ted!

As someone who has spent a good portion of my career dealing with peoples’ perceptions of actions captured on video, I can assure you that this guy’s presidential bid effectively ended in the 5 seconds between him noticing his pregnant wife fainting and him leaving the podium.
Prepare to put mustard on those words, for you will soon be consuming them, along with this slice of humble pie that comes direct from the oven of shame set at gas mark “egg on your face”! -- Moss

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Agreed, but I will say his delay isn’t unexpected. He’s giving what he thinks is one of the more important speeches in his life and is likely fully caught up in the moment and I’m sure it took a couple seconds to snap out of the moment and realize what was going on.

Of course, I’ve never heard of the guy so it’s not like he was going to win anyway.

We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf
