  • Hold my beer, AOC - Lauren Boebert & Marjorie Taylor Greene

We need a dedicated thread on the nutjob republican freshmen: Lauren Boebert from Colorado and Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia.

I see that McConnell finally brought the hammer down on MTG. Calling her out yesterday.

"Loony lies and conspiracy theories are cancer for the Republican Party and our country. Somebody who's suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.'s airplane is not living in reality. This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party."
    Trump loves her, of course.

"There is no creature more arrogant than a self-righteous libertarian on the web, am I right? Those folks are just intolerable."
"It's no secret that the great American pastime is no longer baseball. Now it's sanctimony." -- Guy Periwinkle, The Nix.

There's probably not much the GOP can do to avert the civil war coming to their ranks. It will be very interesting to watch which faction wins.

I did see McConnell come out and repudiated her beliefs, to which she responded:

I'm no fan of Mitch, but he was a very effective majority leader. He pretty much checked off every item of the GOP wish list (more judges, tax cuts, etc.), yet he is being attacked for not bowing the knee to Trump. What a party.
"...you pointy-headed autopsy nerd. Do you think it's possible for you to post without using words like "hilarious," "absurd," "canard," and "truther"? Your bare assertions do not make it so. Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."
"You are an intemperate, unscientific poster who makes light of very serious matters.”

This is a hill that Mitch needs to die on. He could make a big difference if he continues to call this out.

          Let’s have a nuanced discussion!

Are they really loons in the GOP? Are they more welcome in the GOP than let’s say the ‘moderates’ on this site?

Who is worse, these two or the RNC who funded their campaigns, the Freedom Caucus who endorsed them and gave them money?

It’s easy to point to these two and say crazy! But Utahns elected someone just as crazy.

Maybe the GOP leadership should’ve done something 2 years ago. They aren’t worried about doing the right thing, she was placed on a committee even though everyone knows she’s a loon.

She’s a classic representation of the average GOP’er. She’s a fake Christian who has had multiple affairs. She bought her seat because she didn’t want to run in a moderate district. She believes in crazy shit and harasses folks. She’s an antisemite.

You forgot to mention all the horrible people on this board that should know better!

Not to mention that a moderate republican ran against her (a neurosurgeon, iirc) and got destroyed. Barf.

I disagree that she is average.

You think she’s any different than Trump? Look at his support in the GOP post election.

Again she’s just a symptom of the rot that is inside the GOP.

Jim Jordan, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, Matt Gaetz, Ted Cruz, all way worse than her when you consider the impact these people have.

If AOC succeeds in her new pet project of destroying moderate Dems and replaces them with legit crazy people I’ll be the first to call, donate, and do everything I can to destroy that movement.

The GOP has just watched it and said, meh, it helps us appoint judges.

Yes, I think she is even dumber than trump. Quite a feat.

Impact? Strawman. We aren't arguing impact here.

                          He is making baby steps:

                          https://www.deseret.com/utah/2021/1/...ocrats-capitol

Utah Republican Congressman Burgess Owens apologized to “liberals” during a visit to Utah’s Capitol Hill Thursday, saying he now realizes the difference between liberals, Marxists and socialists.

His comments came after a Democratic lawmaker challenged him for a divisive “tone and tenor” on cable TV in a time when the nation needs healing.

Owens also said he now accepts Joe Biden as the U.S. president after he and Utah Rep. Chris Stewart voted Jan. 6 to object to the certification of Pennsylvania’s Electoral College votes, but Owens also defended that vote and what it meant for the state of Pennsylvania.

My point is it’s easy to point to them as crazy to avoid the real issues and root problems. They are crazy, absolute bat shit, but they are only there because the establishment GOP has cultivated a culture that produces and coddles folks like them.

For example right now it’s easy for me to say AOC is crazy but her movement was crushed in 2020 and doesn’t appear to have any real traction inside the party writ large. The moment she and the squad have 30+ crazies with them and start picking off moderate Democrats and replacing them with socialists is the moment when the modern Dem party is effectively dead.

This happened with the GOP in 2010 and Trump rode that, married it with white grievance, and destroyed the GOP pre-tea party.

Look at any significant GOP position over the past 30 years, are they ever correct?

                            Gay marriage? Wrong
                            Legalization of cannabis? Wrong
                            Trickle down economics? Wrong
                            Debt policy? Wrong
                            Free trade? Abandoned
Immigration policy? Abandoned for a wall

This is not an endorsement of Burgess Owens in any way, shape, or form. He is a loon and is going to embarrass Utah. It is an embarrassment to Utah that he was elected. It is more an indictment of the pure level of crazy that Boebart and Greene exhibit.

He said Trump won the election, but at the minimum he isn't still trying to set aside the election results. The same can't be said of Boebart/Greene.
Yeah he endorsed Boebart, you got me there.
His belief in Q is not the same level of full endorsement you are getting from the others. He has been more along the lines of "we should look into this" type endorsement.
As for the vote against certification, it was stupid political grandstanding. At least he least he has backed off this. Same can't be said of the others.

Again, I'm not defending Owens. It is just another level of crazy exists above him.
