I've been playing with my data fields the last week or so. Here is the latest:

Bike 1 - Time of day (large), elapsed time, distance
Bike 2 - Speed (large), HR, Distance
Bike 3 - Elevation, Grade, Total Ascent, Total Descent
Bike 4 - Average Speed, Max Speed, Average HR, Calories

I'm still totally sold on my Bike 1 and 2. I really like data sets for Bike 3 and 4. The total ascent and descent is a new feature with the 310 which is very useful for a hilly route.

Run 1 - Time of day (large) , distance, elapsed time
Run 2 - Pace, lap pace (currently set at 1 mile), HR
Run 3 - Avg pace (large), avg HR, calories

    Other (used mainly for hiking)
Other 1 - Time of day (large), distance, elapsed time
Other 2 - elevation, grade, total ascent, total descent
Other 3 - Current pace, average pace, calories, Heading

I just saw this. I have a 910XT, and here is what I use for run and bike.

Run 1 - Elapsed time, pace, distance, HR

Bike 1 - Elapsed time, speed, distance, HR
Bike 2 - watts (large), distance, time
Bike 3 - AP, NP, IF, TSS

I haven't used the HR strap in a long time, so the HR is a wasted field for me right now. I don't use any other screens for the run, but I might if I uploaded specific workouts via Garmin Connect like some people do. I only use the second and third screens for the bike if I am connected to a power meter.

After my old 305 recently went terminal I finally, and very reluctantly, put her out of her misery this week. It was only good for about 45 minutes max, and sometimes wouldn't even make it for 30 mins on a run or ride. I got some really good use out of that sucker, using it probably an average of 5 days per week since I got it 4 or 5 years ago.

My new 310xt came in the mail today. Decent deal on Amazon at $164 with free shipping.

I'm setting it up now and was wondering what you guys use for your data fields on each screen.

Here is my old page set up on the 305:

Main page - 3 fields - Time of day(large font), Smaller font = HR and Distance
    Bike 1 - 3 fields - Speed, HR, distance
Bike 2 - 4 fields - elapsed time, average speed, elevation, grade
    Run 1 - 3 fields - Speed, HR, Distance
Run 2 - Elapsed time, average speed, (one other I can't recall)

New set-up on 310 (slightly different than the 305. No main page that carries over to each sport; each main page is specific to the sport that you are using):

Run 1 - Time of day (large), HR, Distance
Run 2 - Speed (large), average speed, elapsed time
Run 3 - Average speed, average HR (not thrilled with this page yet)

Bike 1 - Time of day (large), HR, Distance
Bike 2 - Speed (large), Elapsed Time, Distance
Bike 3 - Average speed (large), elevation, grade (I don't really like this one)

I was trying to set them up so I didn't have to switch back and forth too much while riding or running, while trying to keep my main data field in the larger font box.

Any other suggestions for data fields that you like on certain pages?

Garmin is running some sales on the Forerunner 910XT right now:

    910XT (standalone) for $299 (usually $400)

    910XT w/ heart rate monitor for $339 (usually $450)

The sale runs through May 27. Places like REI, discounttrisupply.com, RoadRunner Sports, etc. have had the deal. I imagine lots of other places do, too. Also, the 310XT will be on sale from tomorrow through May 26 for $169 (without monitor) or $199 (with monitor).

I grabbed a 910XT with a heart rate monitor yesterday. I know P has shared some comments on the board already, but I'll try to add any useful thoughts I have after I use it a bit.

I don't know; I haven't priced them. I do think, though, that the simplicity and the charity component will appeal to some. If it takes a person three or four hours to list a watch on eBay or wherever, monitor the transaction, hope it sells, ship it, etc., then maybe a locked-in $50 becomes more attractive depending on the value of the person's time.

What is the logical successor to the 305?
    I like the 610 and the 910 a lot.

You could always simplify and go with the new Forerunner 10--lots cheaper, easy to use, no frills but solid from what I've read. I have one on the way.

Or if you like all the extra features and can't part with them then just ignore my lame suggestion.

I agree with the guy you talked to. Unless you want stroke metrics and indoor swim tracking (and I do because I swim indoors a lot), I think the 310 is better because of the pricing. I have loved my 910 though, about on par with my 305.

The 610 has had some durability issues - my wife has had to get a couple replacements.

So my 305 was stolen. Which sucks extra badly because I can't even sell it on eBay, where they seem to be catching pretty nice prices--some people are selling them for more than they paid. I still can't understand why Garmin would stop making what I think was about the perfect product.

I'm trying to decide what to upgrade to. I called the heart rate watch company (heartratewatchcompany.com) and he suggested that I go with the 310XT over the 910XT, but I wanted to get the boards opinion. I know niku has the 910 and it seems like coach has the 310--anyone else? I love the guy I talked to at that company, by the way. I'll give anyone credit when they pass on the upsale, but this guy is obviously a big endurance athlete and really familiar with all of the products. He said that unless I'm really wanting a barometric altimeter and stroke counter, that the $150 price difference is too much to justify the 910. With the altitude correction feature, he feels like there's not much of a difference between barometric and gps altitude, at least when barometric is measured from a watch.

So...thoughts? I want to pull the trigger today because I hate running without gps.

Every other aspect of the report looks accurate.

This morning I went for a short run before heading to the golf course for the first time in many weeks. I decided to pick up the pace at mile 2. Although I ran the entire mile in about 8:30, at one point, per GarminConnect, my pace hit 1800 mph. But Mrs. PAC says she didn't hear any sonic booms while I was out there, so that max probably is wrong, too.

Anyone else see this problem with GarminConnect?
Yes, on Wednesday night my max speed was .03 seconds per mile.

Looking at my activity list, the bug started around July 18. Everything before that date looks normal.
