I would recommend filling the holes with a spackle compound and then slathering on some Kilz primer before painting.

I’d make sure it’s fully dry. Once fully dry, I’d probably put a light layer of compound and sand it down after it dries. Maybe do that one more time and then prime and paint. If you just paint, it looks like you’ll be able to see the damage.

Hypothetical situation. If someone wants to winterize their front door and wants you to do it but you don't have the time (or perhaps desire), are there services out there that do this sort of thing? Like maybe hang the door better or replace weather stripping? Not to replace the door mind you, just stop cold air from coming in.

I think plumbers or HVAC people often do this.

Any general handyman service should be able to do this. Anyone that does construction or remodel work.

Putting in weather stripping is maybe a five minute job. This hypothetical person must be crazy busy.

Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Probably more when the company combines plumbing and HVAC, but yes.

Or the hypothetical person wants to stand on principle and not set a precedence of some sort. I'll admit this person sounds petty but the hypothetical situation may have a history beyond this instance. But again... all hypothetical.

I noticed that our hot water heater was putting out way hotter water than usual. We have two water heaters (I raised 4 daughters plus a wife in this house) so I went down to the basement to check and the first water heater in the series was leaking from the top. I shut off the gas, shut off the water, and turned the temp control to zero. So now we have no hot water - lovely.

My quick internet research makes me think it's potentially leaking from the anode rod fitting. Anyone have any experience with a top-leaking water heater?

Probably going to cost me a fortune to get someone to come out tomorrow on Christmas Eve.

You won't need any hot water until Monday, will you?

Can always heat it up on our stovetop, I suppose.

But I dried off the top of the water heater and got a chair and shined a light on it when I turned on the inlet valve. It's definitely leaking from the vent opening (bubbling up from the vent opening - not dripping down from the flue). Crazy. That makes me think I have a tank problem and it will likely require a new heater.

                                That was my guess.
