The terrazzo tile is actually pretty damn cool, but probably not the way to go.Originally posted by falafel View Post

I think we are back to white tile now.
I think the best is the tile that I posted above, but it is about $1,000 for the tile. We found another tile that is the same quality, but costs only about $350 for the backsplash. While I like the other one more, I am not sure I like it 3-times the cost more. I think we are going to end up going with the powder color with the divide pattern in this tile.

We have made the call and are going with this one in the divide pattern in white. Still deciding if I want to go with a black schluter or white.Originally posted by MartyFunkhouser View Post

Redoing a couple of long-neglected bathrooms. Last weekend I pulled the toilets and got flooring down in one of them. LVP, which isn't by favorite, but it's what Mrs. D wants. You can see the 1990s linoleum we're covering up. Cool stuff. Anyway, as I was laying the flooring, I realized it might look nice to take the LVP up the one wall opposite the door, considering it's only half a wall, because the shower takes up the other half. I haven't fully committed to it yet, but i'm toying with the idea. Thoughts? I figure to run it vertically, I would he able to finish nail it through the face a couple times down near the base stud, and then brad nail a few times times on the groove so the brads will be hidden by the tongue of the next piece. Between that and a lot of construction adhesive, it should hold.
From a contruction/engineering standpoint, any good reasons why I shouldn't do this?
See bottom pic for the vertical flooring on the wall. I would could take it all the way to the ceiling, or I could cap it somewhere in between with some nice tile Schluter.

I have nothing to add from the construction/engineering standpoint, because I suck at doing any of that stuff. I kind of like the look of it though. It has a little bit of the wood paneling feel, which I'm still mad at my parents for removing all the dope wood paneling they had in their basement.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post[COLOR=#8e44ad]Redoing a couple of long-neglected bathrooms. I had LVP in my townhouse. I liked it, but having seen some of the really interesting tile options out there, I think if I'm ever changing the flooring in the bathroom, that I'm going with tile.
I wish there was a way to do a mockup of the tile on our house. I'm really torn on what to do with the schluter. The white would be pretty seamless to the white wall, but the black edge would add some visual interest to it.
I kind of wish that I was in the position to change the counter tops. I really don't like the black countertops in the kitchen with the cabinetry. Maybe I'll like it more when the backing on the wall is taken off and there is a white backsplash. I really think that either the cabinets need to change of the counters. One of the 2, they just don't work together. I'd lean the counter tops as I also hate the sink, which we would have to change the counters to change. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I think the thought is that horizontal planks on the wall look more shabby chic/Magnolia Lane, while vertical planking looks a little more contemporary. TBD whether that proves to be true with LVP.Originally posted by BigPiney View PostSeems weird to have the floor continue up the wall. Maybe it would work. May look better if the wall planks go horizontally instead of vertically.

You are. Just do epoxy countertops over the top.Originally posted by MartyFunkhouser View Post

I wouldn't take it up the wall because I'm remembering the way our kitchen looked with oak floor and maple cabinets. Too much of the same color. It looks much better now with the contrast we put in there.Originally posted by Donuthole View PostRedoing a couple of long-neglected bathrooms. I will say that one thing that I hate about my kitchen is how close the hardwood is to the cabinets. We really need to refinish the wood and want to extend it to replace the areas with carpet. They hardwood was destroyed by the dogs of the former owners. However, I'm going to wait until the kids are all adults before doing anything with it.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View Post

That's what we did too--finished it and extended it through the living room. Love the dark stain we put in it as well.Originally posted by MartyFunkhouser View Post

would you take the LVP all the way to the ceiling? What if you just took it 50% up? Might negate the 70s wood paneling look.Originally posted by Donuthole View Post

I found a really nice-looking matte-black tile schulter that matches the shower and sink fixtures. It would look very sharp as the cap for the planking if I cut it off somewhere partially up the wall.Originally posted by falafel View Post

I talked to Mrs. D, and she said her inspiration for the planking all the way up to the ceiling was a spa where she got a massage while we were on an anniversary trip recently. She didn't get a picture because her phone was back in another room with her stuff, but the planking abutted some tile and made for a very aesthetic "spa look" which is, I guess, what we are going for with this remodel.

In fairness, this is now the "guest bathroom". Our kids don't need a spa, but our guests do!Originally posted by falafel View Post
