OK I get it that he was quoting Moroni 9:9 which is about how raped women lose their chastity and virtue. Didn't realize he was quoting that verse but in a way that makes more sense.Originally posted by Pelado View PostSounded like he said that chastity/virtue is the most dear and precious thing, not the most important thing. He did specifically mention that procreative powers are not just recreation.

So Bendar has only had sex in an attempt to conceive? Nor did I. I wasn't watching but pulled it up online and half-watched to try to catch the context of your paraphrasing.Originally posted by CardiacCoug View PostOK I get it that he was quoting Moroni 9:9 which is about how raped women lose their chastity and virtue. Perhaps I show my bias, but I'm trying to ask his thoughtfully: does it bother you that you view Church leaders so cynically?

A lot of women have their hymen broken before they have sex. The whole concept is a non-starter.Originally posted by Bo Diddley View PostIn the physical sense, absolutely it is taken from them. Which is why it is such a huge event to overcome. The physical virtue is a symbol of what they hold precious and dear. Mormon did not mean that the rape victims were not virtuous.

So you're equating having their hymen broken to what occurs physically during rape?Originally posted by woot View PostA lot of women have their hymen broken before they have sex. The whole concept is a non-starter.
Go tell the first rape victim you find that it's a non-starter, and then get back to me. TIA

I guess this is directed at me and I don't view Church leaders cynically. I am only cynical about some of what I view as quirks of Mormonism and one of them is this overemphasis on sex and sexual sin, in my opinion.Originally posted by San Juan Sun View PostPerhaps I show my bias, but I'm trying to ask his thoughtfully: does it bother you that you view Church leaders so cynically?

I just have a hard time understanding with all the bad things people do how people would rank premarital sex or gay people having sex anywhere remotely high up on the list of sins.
To me it seems much more immoral for wealthy people to spend a lot of money on a car and give very little to the poor, for example.

No one in particular. I just read the whole thread in one sitting. I don't worship GAs, but I tend to think that they are pretty good people in general. I don't know, I'm not one to talk I guess.Originally posted by Pelado View PostTo whom is this directed?"Sure, I fought. I had to fight all my life just to survive. They were all against me. Tolstoy also believed that one should only have sex if in an attempt to make a baby.
My mission president frequently taught Russian members of the Church that this view was not embraced by the Church so that they wouldn't become too crazy. That which may be asserted without evidence may be dismissed without evidence. -C. Hitchens

What was said? Above someone quotes it as "sex is not just for recreation." That's far from "sex is only for procreation."Originally posted by SoonerCoug View PostTolstoy also believed that one should only have sex if in an attempt to make a baby.

For all this His anger is not turned away, but His hand is stretched out still.
Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."
