  • LDS Attitudes to Sexuality

I am researching LDS attitudes regarding sexuality. To gather data, I prepared a comprehensive sexuality survey covering all aspects of sexuality in an LDS context. If you feel comfortable answering some very personal questions (anonymously), please take the survey. It is broken into two sections:

LDS Sexual Experience and Attitudes Survey

    Part 1: Childhood thru College
    Take Survey (Part 1) here
    Results to date

Part 2: Engagement and Marriage (if applicable)
    Take Survey (Part 2) here
    Results to date

Thanks for your input. The current summary of results are displayed after submitting a response.

Also, there is a masturbation survey that has been running for a couple years (and has more comprehensive data results). It contains more in-depth and specific questions about masturbation practices than the surveys above.

I didn't know you had that kind of authority.

No, I think that's DDD's response to the polls. His response to each question is "N/A".
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

          Not exactly a scientific survey.

What?? I'm sure he's on the cusp of a breakthrough discovery once he gets a sufficient sample size to answer whether and if so what kind of lube they used while masturbating as a teen.

My attitude about the username "Beefeater" in a thread about attitudes about sexuality is that you're a troll.
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
The rest of us rarely bother to think about our actions." --Solon

Hmmmm...because I like Big Macs and t-bones (I do) I'm a troll. Actually, I'm a fan of medieval English history.

The purpose of the data is to try and dispel some misconceptions about sexuality in the LDS culture. (And admit it, you were interested to look at the results.) The subject has the potential to cause some major problems in marriages and even in youth. Very often, it can be the elephant in the room and from my point of view, the more you understand it (and understand what is doctrine and what is just a cultural interpretation), the better off everyone is.

I don't need a steamy description of what you do personally, but I do find it interesting to understand how we approach sex in a general sense. In my experience in the Church, there are a lot of people that carry a lot of needless guilt and shame and feel like they are the only ones doing so. Not to say that anything in the survey should be construed to be a justification of any act, but I would hope that it demonstrates that there are a lot of commonalities and a wide range of opinions on what is and is not acceptable. I continue to be surprised by many aspects of the survey results.

If it doesn't interest you, you are welcome to ignore it.

If you like Big Macs, then I'm your technically-accomplished elephant in the room.

I didn't even click your link, and I'm not really interested in the results. That field has(n't) been plowed over many times here before.

Here's what I know about LDS sexuality.
                      • Every member in a missionary position.
                      • garments look better off people than on
                      • stupid prudish religion profs at BYU who taught my brothers-in-law that oral sex was "unnatural behavior" having no fucking clue what they're talking about. The gift of tongues isn't just about language.
                      • If two people are comfortable doing something, sincerely, then it should be no one else's business.
                      • There's too much focus on women protecting their virtue, and not enough blame lain on boys for their responsibility in sexual relationships.
                      • Homophobia was awful 20 years ago in the MTC.
"Wuap's "problem" is that he is smart & principled & committed to a moral course of action. His actions are supposed to reflect his ethical code.
