I love Wingspan. None of my cellmates do.

There's a new dedicated board game store in Mesa that blew my mind when I went in a few weeks ago; they have a crazy selection of RPGs and standard board games that are so well done and well packaged, they make a reasonable, well adjusted person want to play D&D.

I was tempted to get something before the lockdown, but I guess now it's too late. :/.

    Fabled Fruit

Plays in rounds... a game can be 1 round or 2 or an indefinite amount as you work through the cards in the deck. We started from the beginning a couple of days ago. When we need a break, we just leave the game set up on the dinner table and pick it up the next time. Simple game mechanics, but still has enough variety to keep the kids interest. I forced them to play the first few rounds, but they have grown to like it... like vegetables.

We got if for christmas. The kids really like it, though the games can be a bit long. We play the shortened version and are not nearly as cutthroat as you could be. Still it takes around 45 minutes. I think it is very clever and fun.

For a good time, play Quelf in a public place. You must surrender all sense of dignity, but a few hours of gut-busting hilarity will ensue.

Not at all other than maybe some stylized card artwork.

Each player gets 6 coins (need 13 to win) and a card (which they don't look at). Each card is a character (King, Queen, Thief, Judge, Peasant etc.) who has a different ability. Each turn you can either look at your card, trade (or not) a card with another player in secret or declare who you think your card is to use the ability. When you declare who you think your card is people around the table can challenge it (if you or the challenge is wrong you pay a fine to the courthouse).

It can get pretty hectic with people swapping out cards or challenging other people. I thought it was pretty fun.

We picked up King of Tokyo http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004U5R5BI , which was the pleasant surprise. Easy to learn, short game, and fun theme--we've played this more than any game we've gotten on a long time. Also got Enchanted Forest, http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00001OK75, a pretty good memory type game, and kingdom builder, http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0063I...&pi=SY200_QL40, we haven't actually played yet because we've been playing Tokyo so much. Pick up Tokyo--it's a great game and not too expensive.

EDIT: ok, so Tokyo isn't as cheap as I thought it was, but on a per play basis, it's been a good deal. All my kids love it, and it has a fun retro Japanese sci fi theme that actually works.

    Should be fun.
So far we've played Lab and Rat a tat cat. Both are a huge hit. Labyrinth is actually fun even for adults. Thank you for the recs.

havent busted out ticket to ride yet. We were also given two games for Xmas. One is called "in a pickle" and is a terrible game that we played once and everyone hated and thought was dumb. We were also given "Asara" which is by the same company that does labyrinth so I'm hopeful it will be fun.

Morphology. Pretty much pictionary without the drawing. You have a bunch of everyday items that you can use to get your team to guess the word. It's challenging. My family has played it once, and they seem to like it.
