The Call of Duty Thread

Games like Call of Duty have special "hardcore" modes that that attempt to mirror real life. In these modes, the bullet damage is much like real life. One or two bullets and you're dead. The respawn times are often longer as well. Some of the game types allow you only one life per round. It is all about as realistic as it can be, IMO. I find myself thinking about how I would act if I were really in this situation, and when I do that, I usually just end up camping in one spot, trying not to die. That usually doesn't win the game, though.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Most of those strategies will translate. Flanking is a very good strategy as well. Also, you can customize your "perks" to create a character that is best suited for your strategy. For example, you can use the Marathon perk which lets you run non-stop, whereas you would normally get tired after a while. You can also use the Lighter (?) perk, which makes you run faster than others. You can put a silencer on your gun. These would be helpful in creating a very quiet, fast, come-from-behind sort of attacker. If that suits your game play (I think its a lot of fun).Originally posted by nikuman View PostOn that note, what's the general strategy on multiplayer? I have some strategies on Halo that work well - I stay the hell out of the middle, I make sure to let my shields recharge, I am not afraid to run away, I'm great at hitting the head, and fear me if I have a shotgun on a small map (also, a Banshee on a big one). But it seems to me that the strategies have to be very different here, especially because melee is less important (is it?).
Head shots are always a good strategy too
. Melee is still important in this game, with added bonus that if you are close enough to do a melee attack, its an instant kill, no matter if you attack from the front or back. Once in a while you'll see a guy running around with just a knife killing people. You don't hear him coming b/c he's not shooting and making noise, and he won't show up on the UAV map b/c he's just knifing. Its a very effective tool.
In short, I think your normal strategies will be helpful for you, but you'll certainly tweak them as you get more experienced with multiplayer.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

If that's the case, I'm definitely switching my control scheme to match the Halo one more closely. I will need to have my melee button assigned to B for sure. I think I will leave the reload/grenade stuff alone, though.Originally posted by falafel View PostMost of those strategies will translate. Flanking is a very good strategy as well. That is exactly the reason I first switched my buttons. later I switched back b/c it was difficult to steer the right thumbstick, then move my thumb to B the melee before the other guy could do it (because the melee button is on the right thumbstick already). Did that make sense? Basically, I couldn't attack fast enough and was losing the 1 on 1 battles.Originally posted by nikuman View PostIf that's the case, I'm definitely switching my control scheme to match the Halo one more closely. I've played a lot of "run around and kill and be killed." That sounds like something I'd enjoy, if, as you said, there were skilled players using good strategy involved.Originally posted by woot View PostWhen you die you're "out" for the rest of that round. A round ends when all of one team is dead, or when the goal of the round is completed (in the case of Counterstrike, when the target has been bombed or the hostages have been saved). It works reasonably well, but it depends on the size of the teams and the skill of the players. I remember there were still lots of times where most of the players would run to the same spot and have a big firefight every round. When I found a game of skilled players using good strategy with 10-15 players per side, however, it could get pretty intense.
Interesting. I'll have to give it a shot sometime.Originally posted by falafel

I will do this. FN, what's your gamertag?Originally posted by Surfah View PostSeriously, befriend FN Phat and then watch him play. That is all the strategy you need. He makes my 22 year old brother cry.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.

Surfah is hyping me up. I am good at COD4, but I haven't played one game of Multiplayer on MW2. I should get some time in this weekend.
My gt is FN Phat the 2nd. I was the first, but too many people got mad when I would spank that ass and they filed complaints. I was in the middle of a huge win streak with my boys so I quickly changed it in between games so I could join back up. I have been hoping ever since then that Microsoft would send me another message/complaint.
Let's get a roll call of what your gt's are.

I should have prefaced, on COD4 FN Phat has few that can rival his skills. I imagine most of that will translate to MW2 once he has the maps down. But if you want to know how to get on top of that building where you can snipe everyone and nobody can see you, play some COD4 with him.Originally posted by FN Phat View PostSurfah is hyping me up. Gosh darnet you got me again!Originally posted by falafel View PostExcellent. Let's see if CMBF wants to play as well. Oh wait....
Isn't this game available on the PS3?
Unfortunately for all of you, I can't join in the group- by unfortunately I mean all of you would probably kick my ass. I can't play FPS because they give me a massive headache.
I just wish all of you could join me in playing Uncharted 2 online (whenever I buy it). Unfortunately, unlike Modern Warfare 2, it's only on one platform.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

Actually I just came to this thread to ask a couple honest questions: In order to find someone to play with online for MW 2, will it require that the PS3 sell 7 million copies of the game like the 360 or will the 5 million copies it sells for the PS3 platform be enough? Second, would my inability to send "rofl, i just kicked your ass" during the middle of the game inhibit my performance?Originally posted by TripletDaddy View PostYou've crossed over into a second thread.
