I've been listening to History Podcast on my walks lately. I mention one in the "What are you listening to" thead. If anyone is interested her a couple more that have caught my interest
"The History of Rome" - the history of ancient Rome from Romulus and Rhemus (the mythical founders) to Romulus Agustulus - the last crowned emperor of the Western Roman Empire - in 180 or so episodes. This is complete and I enjoyed it immensely
The History of Byzantium - I mentioned this in the "What are...." thread. This picks up where the History of Rome leaves off and is ongoing. It is up to the 4th Crusade so the presenter still has about 250 years to go. Again very good, if you like that sort of thing
Anglo-Saxon England - this is the story of England from the time the Romans pull out (roughly 400AD) to the Battle of Hastings and William the Bastard - 1066. It is still ongoing and is in time of Alfred the Great (many consider him the first King of England) - about 900AD
The Dark Ages Podcast - a look a European history from the fall of Rome to the Renaissance. This is also still ongoing and is up to Charlemaign.
Revolutions - presented by the guy who did "The History of Rome" podcast. This looks at least 7 major political revolutions in the modern era - starting with the English Civil war of the 1640s and '50s. The second revolution is the American revolution, which is followed by the French - This is the point I am at. There are least 4 more. I don't know if he has finished this series or not. The current episodes are from 2015.
As a history nerd - I can say I've actually learned a few things along the way.
BTW - I listen to them on Spotify. I sure they are available elsewhere.
I may be small, but I'm slow.

Today's The Remnant's episode, "Putin on the Blitz," will interest those following events in Ukraine. The interview is with Fred Kagan, a former professor of military history at West Point and contributor to the ISW daily reports (his wife, also a history prof, founded the ISW). Lots of discussion about Putin's mindset, the nuclear threat, and the philosophy and condition of the Russian military (both are terrible).

I finished the Revolutions podcast - really really good. Mike Duncan, the presenter, tells the story major political revolutions from the English Civil War through the Russian Revolution. The podcast is complete and I highly recommend it. The revolutions he looked at included:
English Civil War
American Revolution
French Revolution of 1789-1801 (ends with Napoleon crowning himself Emperor)
Haitian Revolution
Columbian/South American Revolutions of Simon Bolivar
French Revolution of 1828-1830
French Revolution of 1848 (end of the monarchy - rise of Napoleon III)
French Revolution of 1870 (the fall of Napoleon III after the Prusso/Franco War)
Mexican Revolution of 1890s - 1920s - Pancho Villa
and last but not least
Russian Revolution of 1917
In each revolution, Mr. Duncan not only looks at the events of the revolution itself, but tries to explain the whys and werefores. For example he starts the story of the Russian Revolution in the 1850s with Russia's defeat in the Crimean War and the changes that forced in the way Russia perceived itself and the changes that generated in the Russian economy and society in general. He concluded the story of Russian Revolution with Stalin Purges of the 1930s.
I really learned quite a bit, not only about the Russian Revolution, but all the revolutions he covered.
During the podcast, Mr Duncan has also written a couple of books that have landed on my "To Read" list
The Storm Before the Storm
This book looks at the beginning of the End of the Roman Republic - I think this comes out of his first podcast - The history of Rome
Hero of Two Worlds
This is a complete biography of the The Marquis de Lafayette.Lafayette plays a major roll in three of the revolutions Mr. Duncan covers in the Revolutions podcast

With our recent trip, I learned a lot more about English royalty and the English Civil War than I ever thought I would."I think it was King Benjamin who said 'you sorry ass shitbags who have no skills that the market values also have an obligation to have the attitude that if one day you do in fact win the PowerBall Lottery that you will then impart of your substance to those without.'"

Always Sunny Pod has gotten better with greater involvement of Megan Ganz.
I've started listening to Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend and am really enjoying it. Listening to the 2 episodes with Paul Rudd on it just further confirms that Paul Rudd is a national treasure. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

Jason Bateman is great and hilarious, but what makes him great is his skill as a straight man. Not sure how you could really translate to a podcast format. As I lead this army, make room for mistakes and depression

I have two new recommendations.
1. Long Shadow - Rise of the American Far Right. This podcast starts at the end of the KKK and the Civil Rights movement and traces the remains of the white supremacy movement through the militia movement of the 80s and 90s, to Timothy McVeigh, to the rancher rebellions (e.g., the Bundys and others), to the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, to the rise of Donald Trump and finally Jan. 6. Really interesting to see the thread that connects them all.
2. Case 63. A short, science fiction podcast with voice acting by Julianne Moore and Oscar Isaac. The premise is that Oscar Isaac is a new patient in a state mental facility and Julianne Moore is his psychiatrist. Isaac claims to be from 40 years in the future, sent back to stop patient zero from spreading a covid variant that ends up destroying the world's societies in just a few short years. While that may not seem very interesting or new, the story twists and turns in ways you probably won't predict. Episodes are around 10 minutes, and there are only 10. It moves very fast and is very bingeable. The voice acting is superb.Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
