Mark Wainberg, a pioneer in AIDS research, died in a swimming accident. He helped discover 3TC and mutational resistance in HIV. Also the president of the International AIDS Society for a few years. He was 71.

I doubt many people will recognize his name, but he was a McGill professor who lectured us a couple of times. He unapologetically marched in the Montreal Pride parades, back when it wasn't so popular to do so. He was also an advocate of mass circumcision (not forceful) in Africa to stem the AIDS epidemic. Brilliant guy.

Maybe I don't want to know, but how would circumcision impact the transmission of AIDS?

Rickles is awesome. Whenever he was on Carson, or Leno in the early days, my dad and I would never miss watching together - if possible - and if we couldn't be together we'd be sure we both knew he was on so we'd be sure to watch. just a great comedian. as witty as they came.

He and Sutherland were always my favorite part of Kelly's Heroes.
