How tech's richest plan to save themselves after the apocalypse

"Taking their cue from Elon Musk colonizing Mars, Peter Thiel reversing the ageing process, or Sam Altman and Ray Kurzweil uploading their minds into supercomputers, they were preparing for a digital future that had a whole lot less to do with making the world a better place than it did with transcending the human condition altogether and insulating themselves from a very real and present danger of climate change, rising sea levels, mass migrations, global pandemics, nativist panic, and resource depletion. For them, the future of technology is really about just one thing: escape."

The Merlympics have been around since 2015 and the competition is held every two years. Sim has officially been mermaiding for 10 years, and she said the Merlympics have really boomed in the last five years.

This gets a meh from me. The fact that a bunch of weirdos like to LARP as mermaids and made up some bizarre competitions seems pretty mild. Now, if they believed they actually were mermaids, well then we have a different discussion.

I put this in the same realm as the likes of civil war re-enacters, LARPers, and people playing Old Timey Baseball.

My son told me that Pokémon Go is essentially no different than birdwatching and I think I get it now.

Not long ago an obituary appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune that said the recently departed had "died doing what he enjoyed most—watching BYU lose."

Western civilization is ripe for destruction. Fridgescaping?

                      https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/they-s..._copyURL_share

Where some see shelves and drawers to store leftover chicken and casseroles, fridgescapers decorate their cold appliances with the same care they would a room in their home.

They tend to divide themselves into two categories. There is the casual stylist who spends a few hours jazzing up the inside of the refrigerator, decanting drinks, yogurt and jams into glass containers and placing fruit and veggies in bowls and vases. Then there are the decorators who have made it a social-media art form.

Rattan baskets line their chilly shelves. Framed photos perch next to cheese and milk. They use adapters to illuminate strings of twinkle lights when the fridge door is open. They choose a theme. Popular fridgescaper Lynzi Judish has done fridge interiors inspired by “The Great Gatsby,” “Bridgerton” and the winter solstice.

I like it. My current fridgescape is more of a post apocalyptic vibe.

Yikes, don't let Wally see this ridiculous and liberal story from the WSJ with absolutely ZERO references to how China is handling the tariffs.
