Recently I heard or read about the oil change places sucking the oil out through the top of the engine, usually the dipstick, and thought I would give it a go. A $20 pump that is run my my drill did the trick and I had the whold thing done in 15 minutes. I am more excited than I should be about my future DIY oil changes.
You don't need to get under the car to change your oil filter?

I had a Mercedes I had to do that with. I like the floor jack, jack stands and creeper I have now to do the job on our cars.

Newer cars have the filter on the top of the engine. My 13 Chrysler 300 had it as well as my 20, and my 17 Kia Sedona has it.

I have all that stuff. I far prefer doing it with the pump. Twice as fast and much less of a chance for a mess.

Yeah, if I a car with the filter on top, I might use a pump.

            • I use a pump with my boat. However, the pump hose attaches to a line that comes out of the oil pan where the drain plug usually is. Works great. The filter is on top.
