like a cutaway? because that isnt new it has been around for kind of like over a hundred years. if you can see the tie beyond the knot, then you have the wrong tie, the wrong knot, or both.

Yeah, stick with your point collars. They look good on you, and they hide the tie really well.Originally posted by RC Vikings View PostThese new shirts with the collar cut straight across look like shit. One of the guys on CBS sports had one on the other day that was cut so high you could see his tie beyond the loop, it looked like he bought a shirt that was way to small for him. It looked ridiculous.

I've owned about a dozen of their shirts. They are good quality and definitely up to snuff for a business casual setting. The non-iron are decent enough straight out of the dryer but my collars have always needed to be ironed since they tend to curl under. They also are a bit too roomy in the sleeves for me but it's not bad.Originally posted by falafel View PostJos. A. Bank has 70% almost all of its dress shirts today, online only. I don't have any of these so I can't speak to their quality. Most are about $20-$25 on sale.
Edit: I guess its 70% off on almost everything. And free shipping!
Hopefully you ordered the slim fit. The regular fit size are like parachutes and the slim fit are like a normal shirt. At $25 a piece they definitely are worth it unless you are metrosexual enough to want to spend more for a better/different fit.

As nice as those Nordstrom smartcare shirts are, its really annoying and pretty unacceptable that the sleeve sizes only come in 32/33, 34/35, etc. I'm a 34. Not a 34.5 or 35. Why try to cram three distinct sizes into one on a shirt at this price point?
Edit: It looks like some of their shirts are starting to come in regular sizes, but not all. Still annoying, but a little less so.

I need some new dress shirts, and the CT shirts sound like a great deal, but I guess I need some guidance. I don't need to look like an investment banker, and rarely wear a tie, but I need shirts that will travel well in a suitcase and look good with jeans or slacks and a sport coat. My audience is usually farmers and ranchers, so I need to look nice but not slick.
I'm very conservative, hate buying new clothes, and thus like to buy things that are somewhat timeless - something I can wear for 5 or even 10 years without looking too out of style (I know, Donuthole, the thought makes you cringe.) I like solid colors for this reason, and I like wash and wear, since I'm 90 miles from a laundry and rarely have time to iron. What styles and fabrics would you suggest? I have Land's End wash and wear pinpoint oxfords for white church shirts and really like them, but these CT shirts sound like they're better. I don't buy clothes often, so I don't care so much about a screaming deal as I do about shirts that will look nice and wear well. Suggestions? If you want something that is going to wear for a long time, I think you should go with either Nordstrom Smartcare, Brooks Brothers, or Jos A. Bank (in that order). CT shirts are a good deal and are they offer plenty of shirts that will still be in style in a decade. That said, they are a definite step down from all of the above when it comes to wash and wear. As I've said numerous times in this thread, there is no such thing as a shirt that looks as good straight out of the dryer as one that has been laundered and pressed. But, there are shirts that look better than others in this arena, and the CT shirts are middle of the pack.Originally posted by old_gregg View Postbrooks brothers
I think the fabric used in the above brands is a more durable fabric than anything CT has to offer. If wash and wear is your #1 priority, go here:

If you want something a bit cheaper and don't care quite as much about fit, the Traveler's line from Jos A. Bank is a nice compromise. The sleeves are a little bigger than I prefer (but that might be preferable for someone who needs to be somewhat active in the shirt) but the material really is about as wrinkle-free as it gets. Something like this is pretty classic, and can be dressy casual or would look acceptable with Wranglers (as acceptable as anything can look with Wranglers, that is).

Personally I prefer the Nordstrom to these because of the fit and because I can get them with a longer torso (I have a lamentably long torso which means regular length shirts come untucked all too easily--my Nordstrom longs can go all day without coming untucked).
I can't speak as much to the BB, because I don't own any. However, that is mainly because I don't think they fit as well as the Nordstrom shirts, but they cost just as much. If I'm going to buy a shirt that doesn't fit exactly how i want it to fit, i'm going to pay $30 for it, not $70.
