What's your business dress shoe of choice? I'm wondering if some of you have a brand and style that you live and die by.

I got a nice pair of Cole Haan's right before Christmas. I love them, much thanks to seattleite on CB who got me a pass to the Nike employee store.

I'm wearing a pair of Bruno Magli's at the moment. I like them, but always feel nearly irresitible urge to harm others when I wear them, particularly anyone who calls them "ugly ass shoes."

If I had more money, they would be Allen Edmonds. But it's Johnston & Murphy and Cole Haan for me right now.

Two types of people wear Bruno Maglis: Sissies and men who murder their ex-wives.
Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

          Current work/church shoe rotation:

          Magnani: black oxford
          Bruno: black oxford
          Johnston & Murphy: brown oxford

I love oxford. I am not a loafer guy. I do not like tassles, pennies, or anything else on my shoes. I have no problem if others wear them, but I do not like them on my shoes. In fact, there are some really nice shoes that look cool and have some sort of something on the front (not really a tassle) but I can't bring myself to buy them.

Of the 3, the Johnston & Murphys are by far my LEAST favorite. They hurt my feet after awhile.

As PAC mentioned, Bruno makes a nice shoe. I bought mine at the Rack, so they were not some full-retail $300 shoe, not even by a mile.

I can't stand Kenneth Cole....cool design but very poorly made shoes for the price. Kenneth Cole is like the hot girl that you finally make out with, only she is a lousy kisser. It is the most disappoiting experience. You really want it to work out, but you know it will never happen. The New York line is cooler than the Reaction, but don't last long. The Reaction is less cool looking (clunky soles....ugh) but the rubber soul/glue combo tend to last longer than the New Yorks. Either way, I avoid that line.

I also dig Adam Derrick. His "To Boot New York" line is very cool and works for both work and casual.

I am waiting until I am promoted to High Priest before I buy my first Allan Edmunds shoe. I am pretty sure you need to hair hair in your ears before you can shop in that store.

I am not a Cole Haan guy. I don't like air sole technology in my italian dress shoes. I hear they are quite comfy, though. And from I gather, they make a quality shoe.

Shoes are one area where the investment is worth it.

It sounds like we basically have nothing in common when it comes to clothes.

Although odd that you wouldn't spend $150 for jeans but you would spend $150 or more for shoes.

I buy Aristides Ecco shoes and he seems to really love them. At least, they are comfortable for him. But, he is a patent attorney. They kind of dress like geeks.

The dress shoes they have with the visible air bubble leave me confused. Why would you get dressed up and want an air bubble showing?

When Nike bought CH, they seemed to almost entirely eliminate the leather soles in favor of the rubberized models that could accommodate the bubble. I have this weird OCD thing with dress shoes....I like leather soles.

I remember when I was a kid, my dad was an upholsterer. He would take us to his shop sometimes as kids. We would play while he would work. He also could repair his own shoes. He had several pairs of wing tips and I distinctly remember him putting nails in his mouth and feeding them out manually while he used this tiny hammer to nail his new soles to the uppers. Those were the days.

I love Ecco dress shoes. I have a black pair that I rock. I have a brown pair of Sandro Moscolini shoes that I love.

I actually hate tassles and loafers also, so we have that in common.

I have three pairs of Johnston & Murphy's and two pairs of Cole Haans. I think shoes are worth the investment. You can tell a lot about a guy by the shoes he wears. I also realize I'm kind of slumming it with the Johnston & Murphy's/Cole Haans but they're certainly acceptable. The only Bruno Maglis I'd ever wear to work look like Allen Edmonds anyway, so I'll go with either once I feel the need and luxury to spend the money.

I have three pairs of cap-toes and two pairs of split toes and I bought them all in 2005 except for one pair while I was living in New York. I don't think I spent over $125 on any one pair and I know I only spent $100 on each pair of my Cole Haans. With five pairs of shoes and very little walking in them, I haven't been the market for awhile.

Jeans aren't worth the investment for me because I don't wear jeans to work. I also don't feel it's worth $150 for a label and some strategically placed rips and fake auto grease. I bought some Armani jeans a while back for something like $80 and that was pricey enough and I can't imagine an extra $70 is going to make me look much better than those jeans or that anyone will really care.

btw, J&M and CH are not "slumming it" by any stretch. those are expensive shoes. and good quality. they just arent my style.

I like Ecco dress shoes for men too. And I was joking about Aristides dressing like a geek. I buy his clothes and shoes.

It's okay. Gidget dresses me too. Half the time I come out of the bedroom only to hear her say, "You're going to wear that?"

The other half I come out of the shower to see a shirt laid out on the bed for me.

When it comes to dress shoes, I prefer slip-ons. But no loafers or tassels.
