I've seen videos on YT strategy saying that YouTube rewards channels that post at least weekly. Also, there are analytic tools to see when your audience is most likely to watch as well as the demographics of the audience.
My audience so far is pretty much exclusively male and 35+ years old (though weighted to even older). And they tend to watch most on Friday-Sunday. As such, I try to post a weekly video on Friday morning.
Since I was going to be out of town this past week and didn't already have a video ready to upload, I rushed a recording the night before I left town about my cheap alternative to a track saw. It performed about as well as normal over the first day or two of release (100-150 views) but then jumped up yesterday to being my second-highest viewed video - now at 700+ views. It also has the most likes of any of my videos (18 so far).
I kind of expected the highest-viewed video to do well because it has a bit of a click-bait title (about the belt and blade coming off my band saw). Other videos have not performed as expected, though, both for better and for worse. Kind of interesting ro see which ones click and which ones fall flat (like the one about using epoxy to fix the moxon vise).
I've been including Amazon affiliate links in the description (and first comment for all but the last couple) of each video, but still don't have a single sale. One of the other ways to capitalize on a YouTube channel is to qualify for their monetization program, which requires at least 4k views and 1k subscribers. I think I'm over halfway to the required 4k views but am woefully short on subscribers, at only 18 (several of which are from here).
I have been waiting to publicize the channel on other social media platforms like Facebook until after I release the video(s) of a shoe rack that I built for my wife's birthday. Hoping I have enough time after I get back home this week to edit at least a part 1 video for that. Otherwise, I might have to throw together another quick video that might outperform the shoe rack video(s) anyway.
Anyway, I'm hoping that my eventual Facebook roll out will lead to a bunch more subscribers and start me rolling to eclipse the 1k I'll need for monetization.
For those of you who have watched any of the videos, please feel free to leave critiques here in this thread. My wife was kind enough to point out the thousand or so times I said "uh", "um", or similar filler words in my first video about fixing up my used DeWalt jobsite table saw. I think subsequent videos have been a bit better in that regard.
I'm also open to suggested content - what videos are you aching to see (sorry, no adult-only content on this channel)?
