But it wouldn’t’t let me check in because while it was 24 hours until my flight, time-wise it was an hour earlier than the flight the next day. I.e Got the email at 2:15 on Saturday for my flight at 3:15 on Sunday. But the system wouldn’t let us check in until 3:15 on Saturday.

There are so many time change bugs out there.
Yup. Think about manufacturing or processing when events are timestamped. Springing forward isn’t too bad because an hour just disappears from the logs and usually that’s not an issue. What is really bad is falling back where the same hour is repeated twice so you can potentially have duplicate entries of events.

Smart companies will just set all their system times to UTC and persist all event based data with UTC regardless of where in the world the event took place. But event then humans feel compelled to convert UTC to their local time and frequently screw it up.
