dude, we're brothers. You'd have to see what family dinner is like. Tons of chest-thumping and insults. Its our dysfunctional way of showing our love for each other.

oh, and cougarfelon is serving a faithful mission right now. We're all jealous of him, because he is such a good person. That is why we remind him of his cop ditching days.

fair enough. I am just saying that making fun of someone if they say something stupid is probably not the best way to spend your days. All your days. Every...single....day......

No he does not belong in the Hall of Fame. The only people who think he belongs are BYU fans and Braves fans.

I've hated tkh9 ever since he mocked my curly locks. Nevertheless, his sister is pretty cool, so I guess I'll tolerate him.

There's three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who's got the same first name as a city; and never go near a lady's got a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, everything else is cream cheese. --Coach Finstock

Least welcoming post in this thread. Maybe in honor of CB you should get a 2 day ban.

                  What a coincidence. I'm both.

Must have had some pretty crappy parenting--letting you grow up to be a Braves fan.

I stated my case for Murphy's inclusion in the Steroids in the Hall thread. I'll kindly ask you to back up your words with reasons why he shouldn't be in the Hall.

If Dale Murphy had been a Yankee, he'd be in the Hall. If Kirby Puckett's in, so should Mattingly.

Peter Gammons and ESPN led all of the other voters like lemmings to vote Rice into the hall.

It all comes down to lack of longevity for Dale Murphy. He wasn't great for a long enough period of time to justify his entry into the Hall of Fame. I like Dale Murphy and for a short period of time he was the best player in baseball, but that time was far too short.

He was great from about 1982-1987, but after that he was nothing special. He posted OPS+ during that period of: 142, 149, 149, 152, 121, and 157. Those are legitimately good to great seasons. He was great in 1986, but after that his career tanked and tanked hard. Since becoming a regular in the league he posted below average seasons in 1978, 1989, 1990, and 1991 (this is not considering his short seasons in 1992 and 1993). In a few years he was just average (from an OPS+ standpoint), 1979 (113), 1981 (101), and 1988 (106)

He ended up as a career 121 OPS+, not really that hall worthy.

I realize, I'm only focusing in on one stat but it isn't his defense that people are trying to push him in the hall on. He just wasn't great for a long enough period of time.

Cool, thanks for the answer. I understand where you're coming from. My personal experiences with him totally skew me....but I'm holding out hope that the Vet Committee will let him in someday.
