It wouldn't bother me a bit if Armstrong had to forfeit every nickel he received from cycling. But I don't see why the USPS is much of an injured party here. Presumably it benefited greatly from the Armstrong brand during the term of the contract. Now, years later, whatever the USPS gained isn't lost by the disclosure of drug use (or at least I don't think it is). This action seems purely punitive, rather than an attempt to recover damages.

The people I'd like to see get large slices of the Armstrong pie are those whose careers he ruined by lying and bringing groundless and malicious lawsuits.
The thing that bothers me the most about this is the fact that the USPS gave him any money at all and even sponsored a team.

Seriously - this is the government agency that is bleeding money at every pore and they have $40 million+ to throw into cycling?

I kind of have a hard time with the USPS doing any advertising, to be honest. Provide a service to those who want/need it. But you aren't a business and don't need to compete for business. Like most government agencies, if you aren't wanted/needed, then go away!

    • Interesting tweet from Armstrong today. This is after Danilo Di Luca tested positive for EPO.

Knowing I have 0 cred on the doping issue - I still can't help but think, "really Di Luca? Are you that fucking stupid??"

      • Given the time span that gets covered, this documentary could be pretty interesting.

I told him he was a goddamn Nazi Stormtrooper.

        • And this new book. "Wheelmen: Lance Armstrong, The Tour de France and The Greatest Sports Conspiracy Ever."

Pretty good excerpt from the Wall Street Journal.

Nobody may have been hurt more financially by Armstrong than Lemond. The Trek break from Lemond to support Armstrong cost him a lot of money.

Armstrong and UCI complicit. Armstrong shows off his nice side in the article.

That there's funny. Armstrong has no sympathy for someone that he thinks threw him under the bus? I'm curious what Armstrong believes should happen to people who throw other people under buses?

I'm also curious as to if his proposed response differs if the person being thrown under the bus actually did what they are accused of versus being an innocent bus victim.

Armstrong throws Bruyneel, Carmichael and Weisel underneath the bus. Bruyneel will never work in the industry again, Carmichaels coaching gig will take a hit and Weisel has got to be hurt financially some how.

I haven't but would love too. I did recently watch the documentary titled The Armstrong Lie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1638364/?ref_=nv_sr_1

Good piece that goes through the timeline pretty well.
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

                        • Hincapie's book comes out in May. I think it should be a good read. I don't know why, but for some reason he seems to have more integrity than most of these guys, even though he was cheating in the same way as the rest. They all seem to justify what they did by claiming everyone was doing it (which might be true).

I think he comes across that way; there is a kind of integrity to the role he played on the teams he was on. His professional role has some dimension of sacrifice which which makes him generally more likeable than the others; a kind of 'halo effect'.

                              • i love going back and reading this thread. It is obvious that most of you are embarrassed for your arguments made in support of lance and against his accusers. The first 8 or 9 pages in particular are pretty funny. you all know who are you are. it is ok to feel shame for being so obviously wrong.
