It is like any Kirkland Signature product, it is a decent product packaged under the Kirkland brand. I've certainly had some in my liquor cabinet. The Kirkland stuff is really great stuff for mixed drinks. If I was in Vegas or knew someone going there, I would usually pick-up some vodka, gin, or rum. Over the years though, I've gone away from vodka entirely. I still like to have some gin around, but I'm fine without it in the house. As for rum, meh, it isn't necessary anymore. I rarely have mixed drinks at home anymore. I really like to drink good stuff neat.

The thing that I really love though is that they usually have some top shelf stuff for a good price. Last time I was there I got a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel that was really good. Not top shelf, but I also picked up some Glenlivet which is a decent everyday scotch.

Now as to how to survive in Utah if you want to get drunk and don't have Costco. Benchmark and Evan Williams. Cheap and actually not bad. I can even drink each of them straight, but it isn't my first choice.

I'd absolutely admit to drinking booze from Costco. It is good stuff for mixed drinks, but it isn't necessary something you are going to drink neat. Also, Costco does carry some really good stuff. The Four Roses single barrel is good stuff.

At this point though, I'm actually really enjoying some of the Utah distilled bourbons and whiskeys/whiskys. I really like the stuff from Sugarhouse Distillery. Alpine makes a nice Single Malt whisky as well, although I prefer Sugarhouse's single malt.

    • FYI, tonight I am sipping on Alpine Distillery's Lafayette bourbon. I bought it seeing if I could get over my inherent bias of flavored bourbons/whiskeys. The verdict is that it is good, but I'm still not sold on anything flavored.

After sipping this, I'm going to have RoHo Thursday IPA. I really am loving RoHa these days, including the tap room being my favorite place in the state to grab a pint.

Unless it is stuff that High West is distilling itself, it is really good stuff. High West makes amazing whiskey blends. I've had Campfire, Rendezvous Rye, and the Double Rye. Each has been excellent. Campfire is my favorite that I have tried. I have not had any of the Bourye or any of the barrel aged stuff they are doing these days.

A friend got some of the whiskey they distilled and it had this odd and way too prominent plum flavor to it. It just wasn't that good.

Last time I went to Costco, they had a shelf reserved for local brews. And the wine selection was Columbia River/Willamette Valley heavy. It helped assuage my angst at bowing at the altar of commercialism by shopping there.

Haha. You need to become a little more woke. Costco is famous for employee-friendly policies and advocating for consumers over shareholders, etc.

It's like Catholic guilt. I know they treat employees well, so I'm OK with supporting them. But man, all the stuff, and all the waste! It's like a never ending loop of a paper vs. plastic argument while I'm there

The Double Rye is good, the Rendezvous Rye is better. Of course, you pay for the better. I like rye, but these days I've been leaning towards bourbons and single malt whiskys.

I feel no guilt shopping there. I tend not to buy things there that I think might go to waste.

Just put the paper and plastic in those sorted recycle bins people love so much in the PNW. No more guilt!

                            • I'm pretty sure I saw a $6,000 bottle of cognac at Costco earlier this year. Maybe I'll give that to my boss for Christmas . . .
