My teenage daughter is evaluating post-HS education plans and careers. She's also a Type I diabetic and will have a greater need for insurance than many. And that is a factor in the options she's considering. Her parents are not counseling her to "just marry a nice LDS guy and not worry about it because it will always be his responsibility".

I agree that the American health services and insurance systems need to be fixed. But we also need to undertand how it works and the benefit of having a woman having her own insurance through an employer because that is how it works now.
Good point. And the whole family could be insured under either parent.

Something I've told my kids too: say the economy is horrible and unemployment is 10%. If both parents have careers then the chance of the family being left in horrible shape with no income goes from 10% (if just the father works) down to 1% (if both parents work, some mathematical assumptions there that wouldn't always hold obviously). For women, planning to work makes so much more sense than putting all the eggs in the "husband working" basket that is subject to death, disability, divorce, down economy, etc.

Opposing nationalized medicine strikes me as "petty". Why aren't you as vocal in opposing our socialized road system or fire departments?

I don't believe that people who are opposed to nationalized medicine are bad people. None of us are 100% Christian in our behavior and thoughts, but hopefully we are trying.

What I do think is that such opposition runs counter to the tone and Spirit of many of the Savior's teachings and the teachings of his prophets:

          I salute your consistency.

By the way, who does not use the roads in some way, shape or form? I doubt that this person exists in America. Even if you don't own a car, you probably walk or bike on roads. If you take the bus, that rides on a road. The food you buy at the grocery store was shipped over the roads. So who is this person that doesn't use roads?

What about fire departments? Fire departments are bastions of socialism.

What a shitty argument you are making. I suspected your original story was propaganda now I know for sure.

You're consistent in that you prefer privatization of roads and health care.

I didn't intend to start a debate or an argument but the course of conversation naturally led it that direction. I just wanted to share the thoughts and feelings I had in church yesterday. This is a political topic, but my views on it are influenced by my religious beliefs.

I listed several scriptures that influence my thinking. I don't see any scriptures that would cause me to change my mind. If anybody has any "get rich or die trying" or "tough luck to your neighbor" scriptures, point them out to me and I will consider them.

The cost society will pay over the next few decades will be much greater than the cost to treat her would have been.
This is not necessarily the case. You should read up on the research.

Well, it's certain that we won't have to spend all that money on nursing home care now.

It's called individual voluntary action and collective voluntary charity, not forced wealth redistribution at the point of a gun. Surely you can see a difference.
