  • I fought in Church

This story brings back some memories...

A number of years ago there was a man from teh ward that meets before our ward that was dragging his child by the ear through the hallway. Now, it wasn't literal dragging, but pretty darn close. It was enough that the child was screaming (which was probably the reason for the dragging in the first place) because of the pain. A friend of mine in my ward intervened and told the guy to stop hurting his child. By then the first guy (the dragger) lost it and went after my buddy. Thankfully cooler heads stepped in and prevented an all out brawl, which my buddy would have probably won given that he played LB in college.

This is probably the closest thing I've seen to an actual fight in a church building (not including churchball or other gym related activity). This has me wondering if anyone around here has ever seen an fight at church (restricting it to Sunday around the 3 hour block as I'm sure we already have a church ball hero thread).
"Discipleship is not a spectator sport. We cannot expect to experience the blessing of faith by standing inactive on the sidelines any more than we can experience the benefits of health by sitting on a sofa watching sporting events on television and giving advice to the athletes. And yet for some, “spectator discipleship” is a preferred if not primary way of worshipping." -Pres. Uchtdorf

If we're talking about the 3 hour block time frame then I've never seen a fight a church. Heck, I've never even seen any yelling. I have seen the fire alarm go off, which was interesting.

I'll defer to SoonerCoug on this one.

If by fighting you mean a knife wielding assailant threaten to kill people, and ultimately being brought down by taze shoot policemen - yes.

That seems to happen every time there's a lesson on Blood Atonement.

I was about 13 or 14 - a real small, scrawny 13. We were at the church for scouts. Relief Society (Enrichment Night) was going on as well, on the other side of the church. I had been in the gym, because scouts was over and my ride wasn't there. We were playing around with this long pole that was used to open the really high windows. I went out into the hallway, which was dark. An older kid, maybe 16 or so, in our ward, came charging down the hall toward me. He picked me up and threw me on the tiled floor on my head. I still don't know what prompted it.

That's pretty much the type of fight I've mostly been involved in.

I was in at least three that I recall, four if you include church activities that were off property, and five if you include the time I made a deacon wet himself when I was 18 (long story - suffice it to say he never picked on my brother again). A couple of other times I got in shouting matches at church ball, but no fisticuffs and we made up shortly after that.
Awesomeness now has a name. Let me introduce myself.

You jogged a memory. I was 13, 6' tall and a buck fifty five, and I was sitting by a girl in Sunday School. Two boys sitting in the back of the class was making comments about me sitting by the girl. Ultimately the comments became dog barks. Once, twice, on the third I went back and grabbed one kid by the collar, knocked him into the other kid, and got in three punches in before the teacher pulled me off. Later the teacher said the kid deserved to be punched, but only twice. So yeah... I seen a fight in church before.

I think this was about the same time that my mother had ditched us and was in Las Vegas waiting for a divorce. Yeah... I had some problems at that age.

My mom did that to me a time or three.

We were at a Teacher's quorum activity and my younger brother and I weren't getting along. He had thrown a basketball at the back of my head while we were playing in the gym and I told him to knock it off. I had gone in to the hall for a drink and he came out and said some stuff, and I hit him in the stomach and pushed him in to the wall. Typical brother stuff. His friend who lived across the street said "Are you going to put up with that?" to him. He came up to me and threw the ball at my head, which resulted in a full blown fistfight in the gym, with me on top of him MMA style hitting him in the face. The teachers quorum adviser was not pleased.

How come every fight story I hear, the guy telling the story always wins? When I used to get in fights with my brother, he always kicked my ass. I never won. Am I the only guy in the world that ever lost a fight?

I got my ass kicked in 8th grade by some kid I got in to it with in gym class. I gave him a black eye, but I was bloodied and bruised up pretty good. I ended up getting in another fight with him in 10th grade and gave him the beatdown. I got beat up in 9th grade when some guy in my grade was picking on the same little brother and I told him to stop, and he was the toughest kid in the school. I think he broke my nose. He got expelled for that one and my dad didn't give a crap that I was fighting, because I was sticking up for my brother. I got beat up in 11th grade at a get together and I still have no idea what happened, some guys arrived, a huge fight broke out, and I got cold cocked by someone, struggled up, and jumped out a window and ran down the street to my car.

I mean, this was my little brother and his friend, and I was 15, nearly 16 and they were barely 14 and they were both pansies.

I remember my first year at Boy Scout camp. A kid in another troop was picking on me, and a my brother showed up out of nowhere and beat the crap out of the kid. My brother didn't say a word to me -- he didn't acknowledge my existence the entire week -- and just walked away. Sometimes it's nice having an older brother.
