A few weeks before we moved to Pleasanton (in '08), a Relief Society instructor in our ward didn't show up to give her lesson. Soon thereafter, she and her husband were found in the home, lying in pools of blood where they had been bludgeoned to death a few days earlier. In the course of their investigation, the police began to zero in on their son (Ernie Sherer) as the likely culprit. He was a BYU grad and had married in the Oakland Temple, but early in his marriage he decided he would become a professional poker player.
The story was the subject of a CBS 48 Hours Mystery a few days ago, but I didn't get around to watching it until last night. It's 45 minutes long, but worth a watch when time permits. It was especially interesting for us since all of the Pleasanton shots are within walking distance of our house. There's also some pretty good detective work here, kind of surprising for our quiet little burg.
It's weird to see the suspect grinning in front of the Temple and the "The World is Our Campus" sign.
