Did the FSN Hesperia thing really piss you off that much? I've probably made a grand total of about 15 posts that have mostly joked about FSN and Top Ute covering Bayern Gary (for those that aren't soccer enthusiasts, Bayern Gary is the farm club for the nearby Chicago MLS team--the Chicago Hotspurs).Originally posted by Jarid in Cedar View PostNot the general membership, just a special, elect few.
In fact, if you look at when things were going down a year ago, SU and I were the only ones not buying into the Texas to PAC super conference thing. I was helping you guys keep hope alive during dark times.Part of it is based on academic grounds. Among major conferences, the Pac-10 is the best academically, largely because of Stanford, Cal and UCLA. “Colorado is on a par with Oregon,” he said. “Utah isn’t even in the picture.”

You mean Michigan could lay claim on the national title in 1984 with a win, too? That's like Miami getting a non-playoff lottery team in the NBA Finals.Originally posted by EuropeanFootballMale View PostHey! A moronic drooling of your very own! I think what I mean (but can't be positive until confirmed through independent sources) is that BYU played in and won a bowl game and was awarded a national championship. One of the highlights of my young childhood. I hope it really happened.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostYou mean Michigan could lay claim on the national title in 1984 with a win, too? Yes. One of them calls himself Seattle Ute. We are the Dynamic Duo.Originally posted by falafel View PostI think all the junior partners are on the BYU side.
Come to think of it, outside LA Ute, are there any Ute fans that are laywers on this board? UD, but he's not arguing tonight.“There is a great deal of difference in believing something still, and believing it again.”

Correct. But it wasn't a national title game, like TU said (even though you berated him for the statement).Originally posted by EuropeanFootballMale View PostI think what I mean (but can't be positive until confirmed through independent sources) is that BYU played in and won a bowl game and was awarded a national championship. Not late in the year. Specifically, the very last week of the year.Originally posted by Portland Ute View PostYou are awfully adamant that this game should be played late in the year? Why?
And it's because I've grown up on this rivalry since I was a little kid. Even when Utah was awful, that last week of the season always seemed to mean a little more than the average game against Colorado State did. For a long time, I even had an attendance streak going where I went to both the Provo and Salt Lake games every year and it was a highlight of the football season for me.
Maybe I'm just overly sentimental, but I really think there's something more special about playing this game the last week of the regular season. It's as simple as that, and I'm disappointed to see that end ostensibly because of some Pac-12 policy that I find pretty overbearing.

Clemson-South Carolina
Georgia-Georgia Tech
It seems like a lot of big-time teams play late non-conference games to suit traditional rivalries. And if it's going to hurt you to lose a rivalry game in November, it's going to hurt you just as much to lose it in September. That is a contrived excuse.
And no, it has little or nothing to do with scheduling. BYU's independent scheduling success does not in any way hinge on getting Utah in November. It would be a nice benefit, but we'll be fine either way. Read my CB post linked a couple of pages back.Last edited by shoganai; 05-17-2011, 09:39 AM.

BYU has never played in a BCS national championship game.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostYou never have played in a national championship game, so what's your point?
My point is, this silly argument that the BYU game is suddenly less important to Utah because they're now in a BCS conference is just that - silly. There's no logic behind it that can't be used both ways.Last edited by shoganai; 05-17-2011, 09:42 AM.

Why should it? Plenty of national titles have been awarded without the champion playing in a true national championship game.Originally posted by Blueintheface View PostStill keeps you up at night, doesn't it?
The history books I read says BYU was the consensus 1984 national champion, but it's funny to see BYU fans rush to defend a system they know is flawed.

I think almost all of them have been awarded that way, unless I am missing something.Originally posted by Top Ute View PostWhy should it? Plenty of national titles have been awarded without the champion playing in a true national championship game.
