it is interesting that you say this because I posted the exact same sentiment a couple of years ago on cougar guard and you eviscerated me for it. Or at least I allowed you to think that you had eviscerated me for it.

Also, if you are playing Canon in D to your kids, you are still steeping them in pop culture. Is there a more mainstream classic than that? Maybe Beethovens 9th or 5th but You are basically playing them the soundtrack to Zales Jewelry commercials.

Link? I'm sure I never said there was anything wrong with popular culture per se.

I am going to leave you thinking you just eviscerated me, in the spirit of xmas (gfys).

Lol. Where do you learn these abbreviated text speak insults? Because i know that it isnt from sending actual texts. Are you hanging out at urban dictionary or do you have an admin that is working her way through college? I think I'm going to start following you on twitter (@seattleute)

Ps it may have been archaea, not you.

In elementary school we'd all make ornaments in class for the giant tree in the gym. The week before Christmas break an old guy who didn't have anything to do with the school would bring in his guitar and we'd all go sing carols around the lighted tree in the darkened gym. Every year it would end with him telling us the same story about a Christmas he spent in Europe during WWII and we'd sing Silent Night as they dismissed us by class. It's one of my favorite memories from that age. I hate being old, but I'm glad I grew up then rather than now.

Resulting traffic problems in Seattle drain much of the joy of Christmas for me.

Try celebrating advent. It brings joy and it educates your kids in good Bible stories.

My dry cleaner threw me a curve ball this year. For the last 3 Christmas they have given me an authentic Korean tea set (they are Korean, it was a teapot-thingy, and cups; so I'm calling it authentic). This year they gave me a Pink Panther blanket.

I gave them the same pile of dirty shirts and slacks I do every year. They seemed grateful for my little drummer boy-like offering.

I decided on an expriment. I let the music play and asked them how many of these songs they'd heard before. A shockingly low number (the kids are 5 and 6). They recognized Jingle Bells, Rudoph, but Chestnuts, Drummer Boy, White Christmas, etc., were alien to them. I felt a little guilty, decided that I'd best start to ingrain these. Why does it seem that all SU does is lecture his children while driving them around. Do you even have a destination?

My 3 almost 4 year old loves to go on drives with me. We talk, we sing, we listen to music. Frequently we just go for a drive, no real destination. We both love it.

That's because you're not subjecting your child to the Socratic method during your drives.
