Awesome. I love the emails I get from eero helping me feel great about my expensive router:

Over the next few days, we’re rolling out TrueMesh™ — the next generation of eero mesh technology, built from the ground up to work perfectly with eero hardware. At the core of this software update are significant improvements to our mesh routing algorithms, enabled by the learnings we’ve gathered through having networks up and running in homes around the world. Overnight, you’ll see up to 2x the (LAN) speed within your network, far greater intelligence in how your network adapts to your home, and flexibility to add even more eeros to your system. This is an entirely free update — every eero system will be upgraded automatically.
About 6 months out, and I'm still very happy. It has been smooth sailing since a couple of very minor early hiccups, and I can't remember the last time the wifi went out or I had to reset it. Still highly recommended.

My Airport Extreme wifi was dying. It would flicker on and off and then mostly just be slow. The hardwire connection was still 100+mps but the wifi was generally under 1mps. I checked everything, reset everything, did every trick in the book but to no avail. It's still under warranty so I might give them a call and see if they'll either fix it or take it back.

In the meantime, I bought the Google Wifi 3-pack. So far so good. Wifi speeds are high and the whole house is covered with no problem...of course there was never a problem with the Extreme with coverage or speed. However, I've been trhough 3 Extremes over the past 5 years. The last one had a fan that started making noise and died. The one before that just lost power and died. Both were under warranty from my AMEX so I got refunded the cost just by submitting a claim.

Just realizing we've had the eero for over a year. I haven't had one issue since it was set up. I added a couple more units to reach some bad connection spots, took 10 min or less to add and works amazing.

I rewired my home cabinet the other year (maybe two years back?) and switched to an ASUS router.

The device is well made and the wifi signal is strong and solid... good enough for the mobile devices anyway; everything else in the home is wired. I re-purposed the old router as a kids-only wifi cloud that I can manage using the parental controls on the main ASUS router. The parental control interface on the ASUS is super slick and easy to use. I add the kids wifi router and the game consoles and the rokus to the list:

Then it is a simple matter of using the spreadsheet-like interface to select hour blocks where internet is allowed:

Kids wifi goes dark every night at 10pm and doesn't turn back on until about 2pm, when my high schooler returns home. Game consoles only go live at limited time on the weekends.
Rokus have a little more flexibility, but are dark most of the time when the kids should be doing homework. Conversely, the main wifi (which pretty much only my wife and I use ... and random guests) stays on 24/7/365.

Highly recommend the ASUS router/software combo: intuitive, feature-rich interface bolted on top of reliable, robust hardware.

What are you going to do when the kids figure out that most of the neighbors just use their telephone number as their wifi password? Two of my next-door neighbors do that, which is good... It is always nice to have a backup internet connection.

I bought a refurb Linksys 1900ACS router a few weeks ago. Dual channel so I could put lower-priority devices on one channel and our laptops on the other that wouldn't conflict with neighbors' traffic. It was fast and worked great for 2 weeks, then suddenly wouldn't recognize the incoming signal from the cable modem. So now they're sending me a refurb for the refurb.

Bump. Still stand by this recommendation.

I have a couple ASUS routers and they seem to work great... not to mention they have a good smart phone app.
