    Ugh...

Those folks are smart and hip enough to post a constant stream of snark about the church, but apparently are not brave enough to use their real names.

As you note, the out-the-door talk is typically a feel-good go-forth-and-do-good light-on-content cheerleading session. GBH and TSM were masters at giving these types of morale boosting talks to close out conferences. I'm sorry but, for me, they trotted Holland out there (in the shadow of TSM) and he hit a string of false notes, by and large because he was tripping over his own emotionally manipulative overtures. Ugh, what a disaster.

I had never been to that site before, but just perused it. After seeing many of the same sorts of criticism and snark I have seen in many other places, along with the too common lack of clear reasoning, I was surprised to see that they use pseudonyms. Why is that? Here is what they say:
This site is run by three post-Mormon millennials who have a love for writing and a little too much time on their hands. All three were once true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool believers who, after sincere and thorough investigation of Mormon truth claims, decided they could no longer remain active members of the LDS church.

The use of pseudonyms serves various purposes. All three contributors live in Utah and prefer not to complicate their personal and professional lives. Posting as controversial historical figures also affords readers a chance to investigate further into the skeletons in the church’s closet (or, you know, shelf).
The two-pronged mission of Zelph on the Shelf is to:

          1) Reduce suffering by raising awareness about important issues regarding Mormon doctrine, history, practice, and culture.

          2) Validate the needs and experiences of those who have undergone or are undergoing the excruciating process of questioning or leaving Mormonism.
Interesting; they are more than happy to spread their screed, but not willing to 'complicate' their lives, which are now so liberated with post-mormon wonderfulness.

I notice that they accept credit cards and paypal donations, however, and I bet those funds aren't sent to a pseudonym; but money is so rarely a complicating factor in one's life, so they can accept it freely, right?
          PLesa excuse the tpyos.

A web site where no one uses real names but the operators accept donations (presumably to cover expenses)... yes, "interesting" indeed.

Like you don't know who lebowski is? Look at their mission statement. See what they try to achieve? But they dont want to complicate their lives? If anyone tried to use some of the reasoning used there on this site they would be shouted down PDQ. Probably starting with you.

You know, I thought someone would make this argument, but I didn't think it would be you, of all people. BUt if you really find equivalence, then have at it.

I clicked over to their site and was surprised when the "How to Survive Conference Weekend as an Ex-Mormon" post consisted of more words than "Don't Watch it."

Well, because he thought it was good sport. Because some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn.

Me? of all people? Dang. I thought I already had no where else to go (with you), but up. I wasn't already persona non grata?!

Now I feel bad. Kind of.

persona non grata? I didn't say "you of all people" becasue I thought we were buddies (although I have no problem with you; should I?) but because you are generally smarter than that.

                      • I think that it's time for another name change. This site should be renamed "The Foyer", or some other "clever" LDS culturally relevant name. This section seems to get far more posts than the football and basketball pages.

I hate CB, but at least most people there want to talk about sports.

                          lol. You poor thing.

It was General Conference weekend. And it is the off-season.

Tell me about it... I can't get anyone around here to talk about NASCAR. Did anyone else catch the Martinsville race between sessions?

Although not an ex-Mormon, that survival technique worked for me.
