Astronomers have discovered a 'super-Earth' just 31 light-years away. But, is it habitable or glacial?

"The planet, named GJ 357 d, is about six times larger than Earth and orbits a dwarf sun GJ 357, much smaller than our own, every 55.7 days. The international team of astronomers that discovered the planet said in a news release that it could 'provide Earth-like conditions.'"

Only 31 light-years away? Let's go take a look at it this weekend.

Some pretty interesting theories out there as to why we haven’t detected alien life. This is a great podcast about it:

Maybe your reasoning is too stunted and your vocabulary is too limited to go without these epithets."

Which Religion Is Friendliest to the Idea of Aliens?

          https://gizmodo.com/which-religion-i...=pocket-newtab

"Within Christianity, two prominent denominations arose recently enough to be informed by nineteenth-century astronomical observations of planets in our own solar system. The founder of the Seventh-day Adventists had visions of extraterrestrials, and the Latter-day Saint scripture The Pearl of Great Price claims the existence of other inhabited worlds than Earth. In these traditions, aliens are assumed to exist, so no adaptation will be needed."

There could be up to 36 intelligent alien civilizations in our galaxy, scientists say

              https://nationalpost.com/news/world/...-e0e37a9cf8e2/

"It is a question that has confounded humans since we first looked up at the night sky. Are we alone?

Now, research may have finally shone a light on the issue, with scientists claiming there are at least 36 intelligent alien civilizations similar to that on earth.

Researchers from Nottingham University said the average distance to these civilizations would be 17,000 light-years which, with our technology, would make the chances of encountering such life very slim. They worked out that humanity would likely have to survive another 6,120 years for two-way communication."

Interesting. I would have guessed 35.

At least three times, actually. ("So long, and thanks for all the fish.")

I've seen the video before, along with their other videos. It doesn't change the fact of point one which must first be considered, but isn't because the ultimate aim is to garner as many views as possible*

*which I don't have a problem with—their video is slick and really well done.

They have you covered as their actual number was 36 (+175 or -32)!

Not sure what you mean on point one. The drake equation is fine for what it is. The only problem with it is we only recently are starting to have decent estimates of the first two parameters with nothing but guesses for the rest.
