Pretty significant job role change that comes with some added responsibility kept me up Friday night. I just kept seeing varying deadlines for different reports and notices and freaked myself out with trying to remember what all of the deadlines are for all of the reports. Been working on a list I can post and follow - but it isn't done yet. I'm afraid I've got more sleepless nights ahead.......

          Wow, thanks. Mind, exploded.

Stuff like this doesn't bother me. I don't ask silly questions like what ingredients are in the hot dog--I just eat it because it's delicious.

Is it more like: mass bends space time, creating gravity?

It’s easier for me to visualize time dilation caused by motion.

But the warping of space time is still tough for me to fully conceptualize. I think the warped grid visuals often shown are helpful to a point. So, using the graphic above, the higher magnitude of the warping causes a tick of a clock to be longer In stronger gravitational fields than in weaker ones. I guess it makes as much sense as gravity itself.

Well, yeah, but that's like saying the same thing, bro.

You can't be too literal with relativity or (especially) Quantum mechanics. Visuals are helpful, to a point. But in the end, you just have to trust the math.

I disagree that its saying the same thing, but either way, space-time is curved.

That is what is frustrating to me. For whatever reason, physics is my jam right now. Although I liked math, I haven't taken a math class since fall of 1998. I'm purchasing the "Theoretical Minimum" books by Susskind. Even though they're basic and dumbed down for the non-physics folks, they still require a working knowledge of trigenometry and are really written for people who have at least studied calculus (I have not).

I have a long way to go before I tackle this, but honestly, the holographic principle is what got me on this kick. It literally kept me up at night for a few nights, but I realized I needed to start with Newton and Einstein before tackling quantum mechanics and string theory. I may be dead before I get to string theory.

In the past 40+ years I can only recall not being able to go to sleep when I want to three times: 1) The night before the first day of the first bar exam I took. The subsequent nights and the ones I took in other states did not keep me up. 2) Once when one of my kids was briefly in a very bad situation. 3) The night before the first day of trial in a "bet the company" piece of litigation I was handling.

That's it. And they stand out because they are so rare. Otherwise, I can pretty much put my head on the pillow, close my eyes and go to sleep. My friends have pointed out the saying that only sociopaths and simpletons sleep like that. I am def on the simpleton side of the scale, I think. I feel badly for any of you who suffer insomnia, but I cannot empathize.
                      PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I can think of twice - The first time I was about to go to war. We were on alert to go to Granada, we'd had our final officers call, the BN CDR told us to go home and get some sleep, first formation at 0430 to draw weapons, masks and ammunition. The C-5 (which was on the ground at Ft. Campbell) would be wheels up at 0730. I got home at about 9 PM and tossed and turned all night - not so much worrying about my personal safety ( I was the BN signal Officer - if I was getting shot at, things had really gone to hell in a hand basket!), but something I would do or not do would get someone killed. About 2 in the morning, I get a call from the SDO saying (this a quote - I don't think I'll ever forget his words) "We're not going, first formation 0630, PT Uniform - tell your people."

The second time, my 2 yr daughter was hospitalized with asthma and they couldn't get her oxygen levels above 70 - she was about to be lifeflighted to Primary Children's when they finally stabilized and recovered a bit - she spent about a week in the hospital

Like the esteemed Creekster, when I go to sleep, I sleep. I don't remember dreams or anything like that. I also must be on the simpleton side of the equation.

I may be small, but I'm slow.

Yep similarly I can always fall asleep.

Sometimes when I’m stressed out about something though I wake up at 3-4 AM and am very alert, definitely not able to sleep anymore.

Oh yeah, and I worry about my kids becoming responsible adults, yadda yadda.
Update on the string algae. I got tired of it, so I just started pulling and twisting it with my finger. It came out in big gobs pretty easily. And it hasn't returned. Yay!

You should have Mrs. NWC talk to Green Monstah about that cough.
