I understand you may not want to take the time to argue this, and maybe I'm just too dense to understand the obvious, but I hate dismissive posts that leave me in suspense. I'm have no an opinion on the second sentence, but it seems the bolded sentence is certainly true. Why do you disagree?

My guess, not knowing her, is that her words are not necessarily an intentional, sublimal return to Protocols-like references, but the result of her upbringing. I've known a lot of super awesome, American Muslims who were raised to think poorly of Israel and Judaism in the same sort of way that Mormons of my vintage were brought up to think gay people were basically the worst people on earth (disclaimer: if you weren't raised that way, congrats!).

I think it's more likely than not that she's borrowing concepts she's heard her whole life, not realizing the generations of baggage behind those concepts. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think ironically enough that the backlash she's experiencing is likely fueled by America's intense islamaphobia. The Democrats are right to provide correction, but inferences that she's on an Anti-Zionist crusade or is part of pandemic anti-Semitism seem like knee-jerk reactions to me.

Condescending, hypocritical, patronizing leftists need to stop treating Ilhan Omar like she's an idiot. She's a very intelligent person who has accomplished amazing things. There is much about her that I like and admire. The fact we have someone like her in our national legislature makes me love this country even more. But she knows what's she's doing with her anti-Semitism, like Brett Stephens notes. There is no basis for defending, tolerating or issuing apologetics for what she's doing.

The thing is, Stephens doesn't actually argue in his op ed that she knows exactly what she's doing. I read those words in the byline, but I don't see him adequately support that assertion in the article otherwise.

I think one tweet with less than 1,500 likes is less than adequate evidence that Cardiac's statement is true. I realize that anti-Israel isn't necessarily anti-semitism, but there certainly seems to be a lot of criticism of Israel, and relatively little support, on the left and by the media. They definitely appear to be held to a higher standard than Muslim countries. If not, I'm open to seeing where I'm drawing incorrect conclusions, but if so, why the different standards?

And to be fair, Republicans seem to be the opposite. They never fail to call out Muslim atrocities and they hardly ever criticize Israel.

This looks like a pretty big political opening for the right. All they really need to do to take advantage is stay firm in their support for Israel while the dems fight.

In a recent panel discussion, she suggested that pro-Israel political groups in Washington “push allegiance to a foreign country,” seeming to echo the classically anti-Semitic allegation that Jews are more loyal to other Jews or to Israel than to the United States.
But groups that push a pro-Israel agenda and target the Jewish community in the U.S. do exist. Some of them are very Zionist in their messaging and where they send their funds. Are we being anti-Semitic in saying so?

Nope. Also, Israel can S a D as far as their treatment of Palestinians goes. It sucks that I support that bullshit with my tax dollars.

32 of 34 Jewish Congresspeople are Democrats, and 75 percent of Jewish people vote democrat. This whole thread, especially the title is ridiculous.

If the left continues to pander to anti-Semites this will not continue. Jews are typically moderate democrats. See Bloomberg, Schultz. The exception is Bernie Sanders, and he's more someone who has Jewish heritage than who currently identifies himself as Jewish; he's supported Hamas (as well as other horribles including the Soviet Union, Cuba and socialist Venezuela). Leiberman condemned Ilhan Omar's comments. Jews tend to be pro-business and sympathetic to Israel though at times critical of Netanyahu, and probably a majority of American Jews support a two-state solution. All Jews except Bernie Sanders (if you can call him a Jew) bristled at Ilhan Omar's comments. (Indeed, you're not well advised to criticize Israel around your Jewish friends. Why? because ardent criticism of Israel, the most enlightened country in the Middle East, so often is an indicator of underlying anti-Semitism.)
