  • Dan Mullen to Mississippi St.

Looks like Dan Mullen is going to be the Head Coach at Mississippi St.

I am not surprised. He has done well for himself following Urban. Mullen really knows football and this is a good hire for Mississippi St. IMO. He is good enough that he will be hard to be replaced at Florida. I wonder if Billy Gonzales is offered the OC position who is currently Florida's WR coach by one of the 2.

On a somewhat related note, I have heard rumblings about D-Walker going to SDSU.

Once again, Norm Chow getting left out of the loop.

How badly do people dislike that guy?

Sit down with him for more than 15 minutes and you will know why he is not getting a head job anywhere. Norm just needs to accept that he is one of the best X's and O's guy out there as well as play caller. He is just not a people person.

I bet UNLV wishes they landed him instead of Sanford.

He's 60+ years old... its possible that schools want to go with a younger guy as a new head coach instead of one who will retire in a couple years

            Sincerely,

JoePa (coaching his top 10, one loss team in the Rose Bowl on Jan 1)

I get your point, but Norm has had this problem for a long time. For decades, I would say.

I still can't believe that UNLV gave him a contract extension.

I have a neighbor who played football with Chow at Utah and according to him, Chow really doesn't want to be a head coach. I don't know if there is any truth to that, but that could explain his many years as an OC.

I might buy that argument now... but 10 years ago, I think he wanted to be a head coach. Maybe it is just me, but most guys who are involved in sports for their careers, do it not only because they love the game, but they love to win. And if they love to win, they all want the chance to be the guy and run the show. There is WAY too much testosterone and competitiveness going around for that not to be the case.

I agree. People coach because they want a shot a being the top dog. But I beleive that because I'm competitive enough to not be able to see it any other way.

I'm just wondering if my neighbor believes Chow didn't want it because there never really was a time - at least not that I'm aware of - that schools were offering Chow an HC job.

I'm convinced that Norm Chow doesn't want to be a head coach.

Perhaps Norm just knows what others don't, that being that he is a very good/great OC who would make an average/below average HC.
