Upon rejecting the Beatles, Dick Rowe told Brian Epstein of the January 1, 1962 audition for Decca, which signed Brian Poole and the Tremeloes instead.

1. Was happy to see Taylen Ballard get extended playing time. She entered middle of the first set and played until middle of the third (Olmstead put in Lewis-Bushman towards the end of the third). She definitely looked tentative in her swings. On the other hand, I don't remember her getting very many good sets; it just looked like the timing was off between her and Haddock-Eppich (probably to be expected). Even in her blocking she looked very deliberate in her steps laterally, but boy that's a nice looking blocking front when she is in.
2. The box score says attendance was 2,200; my guess while at the match was around 2,000. Good student crowd on the south side though. They were loud.
3. Miller is having a nice year. Much better swing selection this year. In particularly it seems to me she is much more effective with high hand swings than last year.

I think Robinson would have crushed those same sets because she adjusts so well on 3, 4. 5’10” will be a problem for us at Oppy. We need Ballard so I was glad to see her get looks."Guitar groups are on their way out, Mr Epstein."

Madi Robinson 5' 10" <- starting RS and right now playing the best ... for her size she's very good offensively ... and for her size she's a good blocker ... I think the worry is against elite teams she will typically be swinging and defending against big and athletic OHs and MBs.
Taylen Ballard 6' 3" <- was the starting RS last year before she got injured
Lacy Haddock 5' 10" <- was the starter last year at RS after Ballard got injured ... Robinson is much better offensively and I think at least quite close to Haddock defensively at this point.
Danielle Stetler 6' 0" <- played some RS last year ... never been great offensively on the RS ... this year she's DS specialist ... she gets Miller's backcourt rotations ... she gives byu a lot of versatility because she can come in and play 6 rotations
Sara Hamson 6' 7" <- injured during the summer
Emily Lewis-Bushman 6' 4" <- I don't think she developed into the player the coaching staff was hoping for, but she is a big body.
Note, I do think Gneiting could be an elite opposite, but I don't think it's a good idea to move her in the middle of her freshman year.Last edited by pelagius; 09-23-2018, 03:22 PM.
